I would say as many as you can carry and have readily accessible, like in a mag holster/belt

The plan to carry so much "may" work if you are not going very far or rely on a vehicle, but (if you rely solely on LPCs) any serious hiker will tell you weight is an issue.

Choice between 10 mags or a liter of water might come into play

You must be army (LPCs), I haven't heard that in a very long time

I have a minimum of 6 for handgun and 7 for rifle minimum. The more you can carry the better

          So Kyle
Your carrying 40 pounds of just water, rifle and ammo
Suggesting you weigh 190, carry a 110 pound pack, and can hike all day long

I weigh 222lbs. Pack plus misc 30 pounds is 81 pounds. I can ruck with that weight for 4 hours before a 30 minute rest is needed, and then do another 4. When I was active duty the pace was, with a 75lb ruck and full battle rattle and all SIs, 5 miles per hour. I still maintain that pace.

I exercise regularly and maintain it as a hobby, but very shortly after starting Jim Wendler's 5/3/1 I understood and valued strength training and saw real benefits. Of course, all things said, in life there must be balance. Muscular endurance and cardiovascular endurance are a must as well.

Absolute minimum is 4. Max number doesn't exist.

If I buy a new style of gun,I try to acquire at least 4 magazines for it as a starter and I will acquire more if I see bargains.
Since I like 1911's, it seems I am always buying 1911 mags whenever I see a good price.
I have no clue as to how many 1911 mags I own.

I have about ten per handgun. More for my glocks. There's a reason why glocks are best for shtf scenarios. Parts availability. A good 357 magnum is nice too

It's perfectly legal to own and use high capacity magazines in California.

This thread explains it very clearly:

Note that there is a case in which using a >10 round mag in certain rifles causes them to be "assault weapons," so you should understand that. But for pistols, you can own and use high caps no problem.

Still recall the day the drill instructor told us we were being transported to the range via LPC's

                            We were all thinking APC

WOW You can fit a mag in your "GUN"??? You must be hung like a horse! Us Marines settle for sticking our seventh magazine into our RIFLE.

As to the OP's question, the least I have is 4 for some of my .22 pistols and it goes up to quite a bit more then that for the rest.

i interpreted the post earlier to have been an 80lb pack +30 =lb other stuff on top of it
I used to do a 80lb pack or more, but will never claim to be able to do it all day every day, and I earned my Manchu Buckle (a few times) and still have it btw
