I picked up an ESEE 4 in S35VN...
esee-4-2.png
I'm hoping to turn it into a 'fishing knife;' i.e., one which can be used when most of my activities are in or around water. I can't wait to get it out and give it a try. The 3D scales are a derivative of those The Knife Connection has had available for years. Thus, somewhere down the road, I might swap them out for what I perceive to be a better color, provided the knife works the way I hope. The handle is just, barely, long enough for my hand size and I'd much prefer a bit longer one; though I'm hesitant to try the extended scales TKC has available. The ESEE 4 is a bit 'thick,' but I'm hopeful it will fill many of the duties of a carbon steel blade while being more corrosion resistant.Comment

Not long ago, I picked up a Ka-Bar Dozier folder for a pretty inexpensive price. It's one of the D2 models.

I haven't given it a 'beating,' but I've had it sitting at the desk and have been using it for the odd chore here and there. I wouldn't consider it in the league of, say, a Benchmade Griptilian, but it's been doing a fair job so far. It's a little stiff in terms of opening and a little small/thin in terms of handling. However, it has proven, thus far, to be fairly corrosion resistant and the blade remains sharp with the factory edge. One of these days, I'll try sharpening it and see what happens with one of 'my' edges. The lock has proven fairly solid to this point.
Anyway, for the price I paid (under $30, though, normally, I've seen them for as little as $37), so far, I figure the appellation of 'value' or 'budget' knife seems fitting. Given that I can get approximately 4 of these for the price of a single Griptilian these days, for a knockabout blade to do the odd job that crops up, it does kind of take the tarnish off such descriptors.Comment

For going with Rocky MTN ELK FDN I received a free Elk skinner when I made a donation. No pics, I have been off real activity on site for three years.

To 'flesh out' a couple of orders in relation to Christmas, I've picked up a Buck 55 and a Spyderco Dragonfly 2 Salt. Both are a bit on the 'small' side (at least for me) with the Buck being considered the "MiniMe" of the more famous 110. However, I think I might have a 'place' where it'll prove useful. As for the Spyderco, let's say I've had an hankering to give it a try since viewing virtuovice's semiregular streamside use of it on YouTube (see video at 10:15 forward below as an example).

I forgot to mention... I also picked up a Bark River Bravo 1 in A2 steel to mate with my Bark River Bravo 1 LT in 3V.
DLT Trading has them 'on sale' for $155, which was the price about 10 years ago; i.e., the rest of them on DLT Trading's site are listed at noticeably over $200.
Which do I like better? We'll see. Let's just say that the Bravo 1, which is the rampless version, has already developed 'patina' markings and all I've done with it so far is 'wet formed' the sheath, with the blade wrapped.Comment

working around docks we hate carrying expensive blades because they often end up swimming, over the years I’ve needed knives a dozen times in high winds cutting lines to try and save a sail or more sometimes. So I buy “cheap” and my deck hand lost one around thanksgiving so I got him this and was so impressed for $20 I bought myself one1. Compared to what?
