so not a "knife" guy, and don't usually spend this kind of money on them, but i had some reward points from work to cash in and decided to splurge on this mini crooked river.

I've been doing so house cleaning and the stack of empty boxes has been growing. Rather than using a boxcutter or the Ka-Bar Dozier, I decided to 'splurge' a little while in a Sportsman's Warehouse and picked up a Spyderco Tenacious. While it's made in China and is considered a 'value' or 'low end' Spyderco, it fits my hand better than the Ka-Bar Dozier, with the G10 scales being decent. (Okay. I had some 'reward' points I wanted to use up at Sportsman's and they brought the $64.50 blade to in the mid-$50 range.)

Something like 40 years ago, Spyderco knives were being pushed by a local outfitter I knew who also worked Search & Rescue. I don't think the Tenacious is the modern equivalent, but it is notably larger than the Dragonfly 2 Salt I mentioned picking up earlier. The steel is considered... 'eh'... stainless (it's considered lesser quality and more budget friendly than the 124 CM/S30V stainless on the Benchmade knives I have) and, in comparison to the Griptilian, it is 'bulky' (i.e., not as 'ergonomic'), though not as 'thick.' The LinerLock is more 'familiar' than the AXIS lock on the Griptilian.

Thus far, it's been working out fairly well for the job(s) I intended. I know some have reported using it as a 'kitchen' knife and, sooner or later, I'll get around to trying that out. It's also something I beginning to 'toy' with in terms of carrying it around town as it's more 'disposably priced' than the Griptilian; but, the more 'aggressive' appearance than a Swiss Army Knife or even the Ka-Bar Dozier makes me a little hesitant in that while the local cops are generally not the 'nervous' types, it sometimes doesn't pay to test the tolerance limits on some of them. We'll see.

I finally broke down and picked up an ESEE 5 on sale. I've had a Becker BK2 for quite some time, have used it, but it's just too heavy for regular carry, even in the backwoods. The ESEE 5 is one with their 3D handle, which seems to fit my hand better than the 'blockish' micarta.

So, why did I get the ESEE 5? I plan to put it in the pickup and leave it there as a version of a SERE knife it was intended to be. The glass breaker pommel was a deciding factor and even though I consider the BK 2 to be more of a 'woods' knife, it appears the ESEE 5 can be made to do finer tasks...

Started collecting daggers few SOG and Kershaws and just scored a bnib Gerber Mark II but haven’t received it yet. Other than these I have a few Spydercos, and a Cold Steel Tanto Magnum II San Mai, some Solegen German skinning fix blades, Russian Kyzler daggers and Tantos.

That's a sweet Randall. I've had a 12-9 #14 grind on order for six, yes six, years. Supposed to be finished in June. LOL

I just picked up a couple kershaw iridiums on the cheap, brand new. 35 bucks each. I'm a fan of the aluminum scales as well.

Kershaw 1555TI assisted opening folder. Paid $39.95 OTD, a bit high but I've been wanting one for awhile. Titanium CARBO Nitride coated, whatever the hell that is. The flipper assisted opening feature is very positive. The test drive sealed the deal for me. Carry it every day.

I agree with you MC. Kershaw makes a good knife for the money. I broke the tip on mine using it as a prying tool. I called customer service and was told since that model wasn't being produced anymore I would be given full credit of my broken knife (even though it was my fault) towards another model of my choice. Exemplary customer service! There are pricer knives but Kershaw is the one I like.
