    80% lower

I have an ares Billet lower. I have been sleeping on it for to long now. I also just bought another one....for a total of 2, Now to just get it done.

I am looking for any one from Bakersfield to Fresno who would be willing to let me use their equipment to machine it.
I am not looking for some one to hold my hand, as I am quite crafty in building stuff, I just don't have the tools or equipment available nor the funds to run down and buy the equipment.

If your would be willing to help another gunner out I sure would appreciate it!

Yeah... people are a little freaked with helping others (thanks atf).

It takes minimal tooling to do one, and is more worth buying since you are doing two.

              Har har ...

OK so I though it was not ok to do them on a cnc machine, where it is just a one button press. I actually have to buy a mill ? I can not do the work on some one else's machine? WTF I just have to do the work to complete it correct so why couldn't I use some ones machine?

80% arms has a jig that uses a router to finish the pocket. not sure if it will be compatible with your lowers. But they are working on a universal version.

I didn't want to spend the money on equipment. I don't have a place to store it nor a need for it once I'm done with it. Looking on craigslist I came up with this :

also I think I would need this :

do you guys think I can make do?? or am I off the wall here?

Thanks guys for clarifying THE BS ATF rules.

So since I am part of team -lowbudget- I looked at craigs list and saw this : http://visalia.craigslist.org/tls/4658107461.html

I am thinking the press is fairly small but should be able to do the job.

not to get the mill effect Do you guys think I should get this? :http://www.harborfreight.com/5-in-ru...ise-69159.html

You can get by without the vise. but it will make it easier if it fits under that press.

Pick a jig first. that will determine which tools you will need

I know ATF cracked down on the "80% build rings" that were trying to skirt the law by finishing them for others, or violating the spirit of the law with perceived loopholes, but I thought the concept of that was if you lease or rent your equipment (ie: business activity / profiting) to someone to complete a 80% lower then it could be presumed that you are taking part in the manufacturing process. This was because of the whole "pay to use equipment" angle people were running I imagine, since they were profiting off the manufacture of lowers even if they weren't the ones doing the labor. But I didn't realize you can't go over to a guys house and use his equipment for free, just being friendly. That is a no-no?

Would that mean if my neighbor borrows my lawnmower I need to make sure he isn't attaching an endmill to the shaft to finish a lower, lol? Does that mean Home Depot is now asking people if the tools they are renting are for gunsmithing? With that type of crazy interpretation where does it end?

I don't know any other local builders, so it isn't like it personally affects me one way or the other, but it is pretty crazy to think that two people can't be in the same space with their hobby or sharing tools.
