Dane and I finished our first DTA barrel for our good friend Tyler! Its chambered in 6.5mm Creedmoor. He is going to head out and put some rounds through it tomorrow. I'll be losing sleep until I know it shoots.

Question: If you are indicating the bore with a range rod to within a few tenths (I assume) why the floating reamer holder? Is your tailstock not inline with the spindle?

The floating let's the cutting forces find the center. The range rod is just to get close.

That's the theory as I know it.

On many lathes, the tailstock is not perfectly lined up with the spindle axis, at least not to the .0001" that precision gunsmiths are looking for.

The first two rifles Dane and I put together are still shooting well! Both rifles are just shy of 2k rounds. 5 round group of the left is mine, the 5 round group on the right is Dane's.
