Installed the wrong rivets - bulgy krink

I just realized that I installed the wrong rivets (flat instead of swell neck) on the front holes of the front trunnion on a bulgy AKS74 krink by mistake. These holes were supposed to be counter sunk. Do I:

    1) Drill out and remove the rivets and replace them with the correct swell neck rivets

    or

    2) Leave them alone

I did an AMD65 prior to this which has 4 flat rivets on the front and 2 swell neck on the rear of the front trunnion so I assumed the krink was the same. oooops.

On an expensive kit like that Id drill them out and do it right.

The flats wont be as hard as the swell necks to remove....

Thing is, its on an NDS-2SF. I'd hate to ruin it. I was thinking of tac welding the trunnion to the receiver for added support. The trunnion should be stable, right?

If it was mine I would drill out the wrong rivets, and install the correct ones before I did any welding ( read 'Band-Aid' ) on the expensive parts kit.

If you go slow with the drill you shouldnt run into the receiver before you are able to knock it through with a punch.

If you bung up the holes on the receiver you can always weld them up and start fresh.

We can mill the heads off without touching the receiver. From there spot drilling the rivets will take care of 90% of the "scary" work on removing them.

The swell neck rivets deform into the counter sunk holes in the trunnion , this is supposed to help unitize the trunnion and receiver thus eliminating the possibility of the rivets becoming a shear point. In reality it would probably never be an issue in civilian service, but there was enough concern about it to warrant it being manufactured that way.
In "The Gun" Chivers, cites this as one of the causes that delayed the implementation of the stamped receivers.

First off do you have a way to dimple the receiver? Those No Dak's are hard as all hell and most won't be able to dimple it properly without the proper tooling or a 5lb hammer. Has the barrel been installed yet? If not I say go for it, change it out. If the barrel has been installed, I'd leave it.

The smart, learn from their own mistakes.
The others, well......they just never learn.

Mr Lonewolf pointed out that the bulgy krink swell neck rivets are fatter than the average rivet because the front trunnion holes are larger(except for the middle holes), so the rivets must be removed. The barrel is not in yet so it will be less work for me.
