    Oops

My wife caught me sneaking my blonde Romanian girlfriend through the kitchen to the back yard for a photo shoot.

Yes, 18" press brake and still am not happy with the parking. Will probably have to heat treat the whole finished receiver to get an even finish.

        And thank you.

Cut the dong off, shaped it, stripped it, steamed and filled the gouges with button lac. Final gentle sanding and two coats of a light colored shellac. Done.

          And thank you.

Are the color variations on the receiver caused by the park reacting differently to the different hardnesses of the metal? How did you prep the metal before you parked it? And it looks great BTW.

Yes, I used oxy/ace to weld the rails in so there was a lot of heat. Sand blasted and parked it and the color variations were even greater than what you see here. I normalized most of the welds at slightly different temperatures to see how much of a difference it would make in a re-parking, blasted it clean again and coated it again. It looks a bit better than the first time, but I think for my next build I will drop the whole receiver in a charcoal forge to heat treat it.

You might be able to answer this for me since you are in the trade, can I anneal the whole receiver with a small propane torch a little at a time? I mean heat small areas to temperature and then keep moving along? It is difficult for me to see the color change in my coal forge and I usually anneal smaller parts with propane. A receiver would be the largest piece I have ever annealed.

I've read you can do a multiple step/solution for manganese parking to make it all even, I havent tried it yet but you may want to look into that.

Great looking build overall. I would get a metal 10/30 though for that setup

Revisiting my comment about tempering the receiver, (I initially said annealing), has anyone ever quenched an entire receiver and then used low heat to temper it?

I have done a few smaller parts in an oven after quenching, throw them in at 450 for 30 minutes and you are good. But I wonder about a receiver... Just leave it in longer since it is larger?

I'm no expert in heat treating, but I would think it would be very difficult to get an even temper on an entire receiver with a propane torch. I think your best bet would be finding a metal container just slightly larger than the receiver (Maybe a bread pan) and use the brake fluid method. It burns at about 700 degrees which is the ideal temp for the temper.
