I was scratching my head at the Canyon Country build party over this. I didn't build anything that day but I wanted to test fire this pistol when I had a chance. I couldn't figure out why the firing pin was not even denting the primer. Mrlonewolf had his drift with him to get the firing pin swapped out. Still no bang. Tonight I was going to start drilling out rivets to start over. On closer examination I realized a cartridges was not fully chambering but I didn't see that before. I scrubbed the chamber really good again and couldn't see any problem. Once I got the barrel off Ray Charles could have seen what the problem was. I managed to put a burr on the chamber mouth while installing the barrel I guess. I used a stone in the Dremel to take the burr out and now a cartridge drops right in. I put it back together in and just need to wait to test fire it.

Thanks, and I will definitely shoot it as soon as possible! It is always easier to troubleshoot something when I can relax and reflect on something. I'm going to sandblast and paint it before taking pics though. It's too cold and wet to use Alumahyde II so I'm thinking about trying some Rustoleum satin black rattle can. I guess I could go out in the back yard and bust a few caps on New Years Eve at exactly midnight. But you never know when somebody will make a big deal about something like that. Did the burr come from maybe pressing the barrel out and something lodging itself into the chamber? Not that I experienced that one myself or anything...

For home testing of hard primers in a weapon that had problems I usually will pull the bullet and powder and test fire with just a primer into a wet rag to keep the noise down.Originally posted by fighterpilot562I am more of a sucker than a blower...Comment

Yeah, my guess is I couldn't find the piece I usually use for pressing out barrels and the piece I used was off center and I didn't bend over low enough to see it. My bad, no excuses. The burr was very small and I couldn't see it until I took the barrel back out of the trunion and looked at it from a different angle. I thought about snapping a pic of it but I was eager to get it back together so no parts would get lost. I've got so many different projects going I ran out of plastic bins to keep them separated! Going to work and earning a living really cuts into my hobby time!
What means are you using to pull 7.62x39 bullets? I'm not set up for reloading yet I just have a bunch of reloading stuff I inherited when my friend Charlie passed away. I did ask a friend recently to pull a 7.62x39 bullet so I could use the case as part of headspacing an Egyptian AK and he said it was really hard to pull.If you can't explain it simply you don't understand it well enough. Kinetic Bullet Puller that I picked up years ago for $10. And when I've been out and about, just a pair of pliers. I have a good strong grip "caused by my first marriage" just grab ahold of the bullet with the pliers and twist a little to break the coating if it has one and pull while twisting. And make sure that you get all the powder out.Originally posted by fighterpilot562I am more of a sucker than a blower...Comment
