If this were an AK build party I would attend. But it sounds like this has taken an AR direction(?).

If not and your going to do AK's too. Where are you at exactly Shadyjeff?

AK build fee will be 35 bux per bend
      ....
So I'm a total noob to building. Does this mean the total cost of the self-built AK receiver would be Cost of purchasing 80% blank + $35?

I guess I'm asking if there are more than one bends required in taking the 80% blank to completeness.

What's the approximate total cost of building your own AK receiver?

Well to answer your question, most people don't do 80% blanks because there is a lot of drilling and cutting involved.

        We use flats like this

put it in a jig, then press and takes about 5 mins to bend the flat...

Flat $20, center support is $7 and flat bending fee is $35

        ALSO SHADYJEFF

put me down for a probably for the party.... IDK if I am going to mill an AR lower out or anything but I'll probably bring some 80% paperwts with me

I would like to see an AR paperwt milled out but I can be there to help with the AK building if there will be any.

          Negative.

The $35 is the cost to support the build party.
It helps pay for food, drinks, and to help offset some of the costs of tooling that is damaged.

Total cost for a homebuilt AK is going to be in the $300-$500 ballpark.
The flat, rivets, and 922(r) compliance parts will be between $60 and $100, depending on whether you opt for a 922(r) compliant piston or not.

The basic parts kit will cost you between $200 and $300... but be very careful on the barrel. NEW parts kits cannot be imported with the barrel intact, so many kits are now showing up with US-made barrels.
That's not all bad, because you aren't getting a barrel that's been used in combat (perhaps against our men and women), but these are "virgin" barrels. They are not drilled for the gas block or the rear trunnion. This adds quite a bit of labor to the process, and can easily be beyond the abilities of a first-time builder.

            I'm in.

Will possibly have a 2nd with me, both for AR milling.

I'd really like to do this and was all over it for a few hours until I realized. "new gun, new ammo, no time to shoot now."

So I think I will try to stay disciplined and NOT build a new rifle, especially an AK in a caliber I don't have.

Still, it's a great idea to build your own unregistered rifle. I'm offering moral support and best wishes to all builders!

                  80% lower
                  Buffer tube
                  Lower parts kit
                  Bullet button
                  Upper shorter than 16"

Your choice of quad rail or carbine handguards, sights, optics, lasers, etc....

Minimum, you're probably looking at the $700-$1200 range depending on what upper and options you want.

                  And that's just the parts.
If you don't want to do a build party, you'll need either a $120 jig and a mill (with the proper bits), or a drill press and $250 worth of jig parts, plus another $50 in bits and mills... then you'll need to send the lower out for anodizing after it's machined.

Speaking of milling tools, Do we have all the necessary ones lined up for the BP? I need to throw something at this shin-dig to make it fly. Nothing would be worse than no bits, or breaking one on the "fly"(cut). yuk yuk

How many jigs do we have tentatively to be there?

How about a CNC that just copies the dimensions of a finished kit then duplicates on a mini production line. All we would need to do is manually hit the start sequence and it would be as if we completed it.

LOL E, I would love to have something like this! It would finish 80%s in about 15 or 20 mins

I know a guy in Norcal that has one in his storage but needs a month or so to play with it to figure it out. It has the designs or programs already to finish the 80%s
