actually it is my type III malfunction clearing and reloading that are not up to par. But, I will be seeing a GM for some "help" and then return to FS in November for another 2 days of practicing and then taking the test.

I am a LEO, retired military, and have shot bullseye and IDPA in the past. I went to the 4 day handgun last month on a free certificate from my brother and his wife. I now have a diamond membership, also courtesy of my brother. I have to defend FS training, as it is excellent training, especially for beginning shooters. I shoot ISO, due to my current job, and the instructors were very receptive to it and actually provided some tips for me that were ISO specific. We had 36 students in my class and there were only 8 graduates, so they were not giving anything away. I was the only Distinguished Graduate in the class. AS far as their training being outdated, I don't necessarily agree. There is nothing fundamentally worng with the weaver stance, and sight picture/sight alignment do not change. They run a very professional training environment and, given their membership options, the price is ridicuously good. I am going back next week for the advanced handgun course and then I am going to pursue their Combat Master certification. There is plenty of other handgun training out there, some better and some worse, but FS is definitely not a second rate organization. The training is, in my opinion, well worth the trip. I am actually considering becoming a part time instructor up there in the future because I was impressed with how professional and organized they ran the course I attended. I will reserve that decision until after I have attended a few more courses.

Missiondude, I did the same thing (all supportside shooting) during a 2 day. Although my shooting was fine, the manipulations were a little different. I recommend that all serious pistol students shoot with their "other side".

Agent5: To master type3 malfunctions, visualize the procedure, in the greatest detail. Know exactly what you have to so before you do it. For example:
Gun stops working, - Look while moving and check for a spare magazine pLock the slide back and strip the magazine out- Rack, rack, rack - Insert new magazine and "rack" the slide one more time.
Close your eyes and see yourself doing this procedure in your mind, step by step. All "live" practice of this malfunction should be done at a range....or with dummy rounds in your saffe dry practice area. Practice at 40 to 50% speed until you have the procedure down pat, then apply the speed. You can actually talk your way through this malfunction clearance and still make the time. I have my tpye 3 clearances down to the 4.3 to 4.5 second range. I've only had a couple "lates" at the Master Prep times. So if a dinosaur like me can do this....all it take really is dedicated dry practice.
I'm heartened to read Iso shooters are gettiing the help they asked for. I definitely support Kles277 post.

CDP45...I say, run what ya brung Bro! Your open STI and Limited gun would probably give the folks at weapons inspection either a woodie or heart attack...lol. If your serious, run your duty gun or IDPA rig.
