    Front Sight bound next week

We are headed down next week - taking their Glock gunsmith class on Thursday and then the four day defensive handgun Friday-Monday.

I am definitely looking forward to this break from my day to day grind!!

+1 on all of those. The medical tape saved my hands from the cheese grater of a grip on my HK USP. Also, my cover garment was a vest that had a zipper on it. After about 200-300 reholsters the inside of my right forearm was pretty raw. Again... medical tape to the rescue.

Uplula is nice too, but I found myself loading on the line most of the time. Some LA Police Gear tac pants or 5.11 were really useful for all the pockets. you will be storing ammo in open pockets.

        Have fun!

I am heading down next weekend.

Any info on the 'test' at the end of the handgun class? I have heard about the 3 types of jam clears, what about a timed shooting test?

Any info on that would be appreciated. I have been practicing draws, clears and double taps for the last couple of weeks,

The test is basically a series of shots to the chest and head at 3, 5, 7, and 10 yards, all under time pressure except for a few untimed head shots. I only remember one series of shots where we started at the low-ready; the rest are drawing from concealment. Obviously, more time is given for shots at longer distances. Malfunction clearances are also under time pressure.

It's a really good evaluation, as I feel like it tests your consistency more than anything. Just gotta relax and put your training to work.

            Have fun.

Do a search for frontsight pocket guide. shows the test requirements on page 23. Three type of jams. Two types of reloads.

The 4 day defensive handgun class is a blast.

The timed shots are not difficult as long as you are consistently quick on the presentation. Dry practice that like a madman and the accuracy won't be as much of a problem on the timed tests. Dry practice the malfunctions and especially the type 3 malfunction at least twice as often as the other two. That is the toughest test to make time on.

They test you on each malfunction twice and I kick myself for missing time on the type 3 and missing distinguished graduate in my class by 1 point.

Drink tons of water and post here when you get back on how the weather is. I plan on hitting a 2 day rifle class there next month.

I suggest you bring a cooler full of ice water and towels to wrap around when it gets surface of the sun hot. I was there last year in June and the temperature on the gravel was insane. Ice towels were nice, and cool you down quick.

Mossberg, guess you could tell I was a little hungry when using the incorrect terms of "jams." Will work on it. Looking foreward to shooting with you at Pala 300.

Kind of new here and I'm really not trying to offend anyone. But what is with people wanting to travel all the way to front sight to take training that hasn't evolved in YEARS when they have great local training available?
