I'd drive. It is only an hour and a half from Vegas. Also, I'd either camp at the range if you have an RV or use AirBnB. I have, in the past, stayed at nice AirBnBs at $40 per night.

My two cents: first class i took was a 2ddhg, but I've been shooting for 5 years. Two days was enough for me to get hooked on training classes, four days might have exhausted me at the end.

There were two gun virgins in my class, a bf/gf pair. I was pretty nervous standing next to them in day 1 but by day 2 i felt safe(r). They still can't shoot accurately, but they can shoot safely.

I figured you'd be your wife's line coach; bf/gf did it for each other. But i can understand if a couple is fighting on the range then no one is havinga good day. You know your wife best (i knows her pretty well too, haha jk); it can be a chance to connect or a chance to let her have fun.

I'd vote glock 34for the extra sight radius (and softer recoil? Never shot a 34 before, so don't know). The conversation about magazines is spot on ; mag changes are not the focus at this point for a gun noob.

Most important to me is my thumb on my firing hand. Even with a two day my **** was raw from mag changes and malfunction drills. I already had an extended mag release, but bought a oem extended slide catch because ofthis. Make the ergonomics perfect for the little lady so she'll enjoy herself more instead of fear every mag changes and type 3 malfunction.

Dress appropriate (including shoes. I had to loan sneakers to bf/gf pair, she was wearing heels), hydrate, hat, shirt for hot brass mitigation, e.t.c

Just an FYI for a buck or two you can get a DVD/downlaod from FS and it will give your wife some info on being there for the first time - they cover what she will learn and was very informative - well worth doing for the novice first timer in the shooting sport.

        Good Luck!

          Thanks for the responses guys!

As I was once an FS student, I have the introductory DVD. I also bought the printed manuals for the HG, PR and Shotgun at the ProShop when I was there.

Yeah, I guess that it would be best that I pair up with her... Since she just started doing Kendo (Japanese swordsmanship) 3x/week - am hoping that she be up and running by March for a 4D.

That said... Maybe it's me; but, the last time I was at Front Sight I didn't appreciate the unsolicited advice from my pair. YES to points that are related to safety and what the FS instructors touch on; NO to stuff like "special tips" to improve grip and stance, etc. that he seemingly learned from another school. Especially from someone who doesn't shoot any better than I did... He had a Glock 17 with low-recoil reloads (he told me he got it from this "guy," etc.), and I had a Glock 22 with factory.

Noted! Thanks! I guess with Ron Avery is now due...

Couple questions for you FS guys/gals with more experience than me. I've taken 5 classes now after I got a cheap Diamond membership off Ebay and am addicted. I want to take them all but the private training is very appealing to me and I'm considering upgrading to President.

            Here's my questions:
            1. How many days can you schedule for private? Is it just 1 day at a time, or can you schedule 2 or 4? As in days in a row, so instead of doing a 4 day course, can you do a 4 day private?

            2. Has the lead time in scheduling private classes gotten out of hand? From what I heard previously it was like 6 months, which is OK since I'm a planner but if it's insane now I might reconsider.

            3. Can you put another private class on the calendar before completing one that's scheduled? IE it's August, say I have a private class scheduled in December, can I schedule one for like June next year now or do I have to complete my December session and then start over?

            4. Is there anyone here with TBD President memberships that's interested in selling? I don't know if TBD President's are a thing or not but thought I'd check before I pay the good Dr. directly. If anyone has one to sell, I'd rather help a member get some money back on their investment rather than lining Pizza's pockets.

            Any other thoughts/tips?

My understanding is you can schedule a whole 4 day class as private. Personally I think that would be a waste as there is time built in the schedule for 40 people and one on one would slow you down but could be condensed.

They roll out the schedule 6 months in advance. You have to show you passed the lower class to schedule higher classes. I think they won't really entertain to much of front loading classes.

I think you can front load other classes you just have to wait till they roll out the class schedules.

I haven't used the private training yet as I don't have it for my son and I have to go through the training with him due to age.

                ....
So, the "private" training still follows FS curriculum rather than evaluating a shooter and working on his/her weaknesses or a specific items a shooter wishes to work on (e.g. transitions between multiple targets, shooting on the move etc.) ?

They bend curriculum to your wants, needs and desires within reason. No lectures, no downtime for long instruction sessions. Plenty of restroom breaks. Lots of practice.

Thanks for all the responses so far, very helpful. I've been a longtime lurker here and learned a lot about FS that's helped me do better there than I would have otherwise.

Thanks Muzz for the info about the curriculum, that's about what I was expecting.

I've heard mention that you can work parts of different courses in, can anyone confirm? Assuming they're all courses you're qualified for, say you wanted to focus on Rifle but also wanted to spend some time brushing up on shotgun and pistol, would that fly with them?

Also, sounds like this is the case, but wondering if they give you the chance to do some extra/more advanced stuff if you're doing well with the course?

Lastly, can anyone who's been through private training confirm on how many consecutive days you can schedule it for? I'm hoping you can do 4, which I'd assume would align with curriculum for many of the courses. I'm figuring that 1 on 1 I could probably get 2-4x the amount of training in the same amount of time.

No they will work with you. Had a long conversation with staff before I bought the upgrade. It depend on what you want to do, should have been a little more clear. You can do a private four day if you want or work on something else in particular if you need to correct or improve.

I think the better thing would be to do the personal on areas of improvement rather than a 2 or 4 day class.

Thinking of a family vacation to FS in Spring - I Googled "FrontSight schedule."

One of the links that I got was Glassdoor's salary/employee review page...

This is what I read -

(PDF of a cached link to Glassdoor): https://www.dropbox.com/s/m11gj8ws8a...views.pdf?dl=0

                          Whoa!?! LOTS of disgruntled staff/employees...

But it's amazing that they can they still keep a professional demeanor with the students...

But still a Wow!!! on what has been written.

Yea, that’s been a sad and long standing issue. I’ve left some ammo for the instructors post class. Have any of you guys ‘tipped’ in other ways?

There goes my retirement plan. Thought it might be nice to pick that up as a retirement job

I do find the formulaic repetition of talking points kind of..... laughable. Even if there are only so many ways to recite the fundamentals. I suppose having a clean/rigid process is what allows for them to crank through the volume of customers that they do.
