I am not sure either. It sounds like it has been handled both ways. When I went to Guardian, it did not change my "membership" benefits but provided additional incentives. My membership number did not change as is customary with a membership upgrade--instead they simply appended a "G" prefix to my current membership.
I know in the one promotional offer, Naish refers to it as a"Guardian of Front Sight supplement". To me that indicates it is something different than the core membership. Further, he describes this in his promotion:
"Your membership number will receive the letter G as the prefix, maintaining your current membership number and other prefixes or suffixes (such as A, E, D etc.) and you retain all your current membership benefits, so if you are an Executive or Ambassador or Diamond or Platinum member you maintain all your previous benefits and privileges.
