RO QUESTION

Raymond, too bad you missed the USPSA RO class last month at Richmond. It was very well attended. Now that I'm certified (once I get my packet in the mail) I can help out more

Not to thread jack, but how often do you do RO classes at Richmond? When is the next one?

Hey folks,

I have a quick question.

Lets say we are at a rifle match, the shooter had just finished his course of fire, and everyone is downrange scoring and patching-up the targets.

Now, while everyone is downrange, the next shooter (unbeknownst to anyone) got anxious and went to the stating point. While there, he started getting ready and LOADED A MAGAZINE INTO HIS BLACK RIFLE.

Of course, as soon as an RO saw that, he ran to the shooter and grabbed his weapon to ensure HE (the RO) had everything in control. The shooter got mad, and told the RO to never touch his weapon again. He told the RO that he should just "tell him" to unload and make safe...but not to touch his weapon.

Is the fact that he was locked and loaded, with other shooters down range, and without an RO giving him these commands, a DQable offence?

How would yall have handled it?

I would have done the same, unloaded it myself and told the guy he was DQ'd for loading a firearm without the instruction of the RO/SO, AND people were downrange.

If he had any problems with it, he could take up the issue with the MD.

Safety is of the UTMOST concern.

I'm not RO, but I wouldn't want to shoot with that person. I coud see not DQing if he never swept anyone, and RO was feeling very generous. But to do something that stupid and then mouth off on top of it, as if the RO was wrong? GO HOME. Attitude + Stupidity = Accident.

RO classes are NROI events.. The one last month was put together in anticipation of the Sectional match we had recently. There will likely not be another one for some time since the RO Instructor is in the process of moving to OR. If there is sufficient interest, there may be another one held next year before the Section match being held in Sacramento tentatively in mid April. Sometimes other USPSA clubs will hold a class and the best thing to do is to contact USPSA and ask them if there is a scheduled class in the area (western states) in the near future.

There was just a rifle no mag. I agree this should never have been posted.

Especially with the wrong info, Raymond! But mouthing off with the RO is unacceptable. You have a cooler head than you look slamfire.

If there was no mag in the gun why did the RO have to grab the competitors gun? Something is not right here. I have shot national matches and stood their with rifle mag in hand and rifle in other hand. No RO grabbed my gun.

Here's a link to the NROI scheduling page. There's a class in October in San Luis for folks that want to attend. It's two days. The first day is a full day of the rule book and explanation of the rules. The second is about a 1/2 to 3/4 day and you'll be on the road and home in time for dinner.

I DQ'ed bigdawg's buddy from the Grendel forum for loading up his pistol while everyone else was down range. This happened a few years back. I was the RO and was still dealing with the previous shooter when the guy decided he was going to load up. I don't remember if I put my hand on him to force him to face a safer direction, but I don't think the people downrange would see a problem in doing that.

I think the kid was about to sweep people down range and RO had to jump quickly and keep it muzzle up. Loaded or not, muzzle must be pointed upwards until the RO says it's clear.

I just passed the certification test, so I'm waiting for my package to be an official RO. Sargenv covered when the next class will be (check the USPSA website).

Scott - Let's be fair. That guy was hardly my buddy and just some a-hole I talked with occasionally over at the Grendel forums. That guy was off his rocker to say the least. I'm glad the douche doesn't shoot (that I've seen) with any clubs locally.

I know right. That guy has been a burr in my rear and I never met him. Hell...I'm pretty sure I was deployed when talking to the knucklehead about getting into competition.
