Hey...! How have you been doing? Looking forward to the grand opening of PF?

On Gunsite - you sold me on Prescott. Especially the Hilton since I am a loyalty member and get good perks. Thank you!!!

That said, apparently PF opened its doors to competition. They hosted a multi-gun match recently

From speaking with GS regulars, this is the place to stay: https://littlethumbbutte.com/index.html

Everybody raves about Miss Ann. The service is great and the meals are awesome. I'll probably stay there next time. Btw, she prefers cash.

The only time I went to GS was this year and we stayed at the GS campground in my buddy's RV. The facilities were great. It didn't hurt that we were the only ones there for most of the week. About that...

We were in a very small class and the only class on site. Ken Campbell came over everyday to hang out with us during lunch. He has lots of stories. Cool guy for sure.

Been a while since I did a FS pistol class, but I press check enough during uspsa and my own practice that it's not theater for me anymore, and same thing with unloading and capturing the live round (though I eject my live round in to the air and catch it with my support hand).
They don't like capturing the live round upon ejection while clearing the handgun. The RM gave us an example of a guy who did that and the round ignited in his hand. The round is cheap, just let it go.

Presschecks - FS teaches taking the support side hand and sliding up under the dustcover and grasping the front of the slide. They don't like it because it positions the support side hand too close to the muzzle. It's a safety problem. The way they teach is like a low-light presscheck. While grasping the handgun, the firing side hand fingers come up (the web still under the tang) and wrap around the top of the slide to crack the ejection port open. From there, a support side finger is inserted in the opening to feel for a round. It works for all lighting conditions and it keeps your eyes up.

Heres a question since there are some who have been to GS and now PF, whats the difference in prices between the 2? The 2 schools cost the same or is PF lower in cost?

PF is cheaper. The entry-level class at GS is about $1950 for 5 days.

              Really considering trying out Gunsite...

So, for the dates of 8~12 Jan - $1,915 for Pistol 250. Then the hotel in Prescott - while the recommendation is the new Garden Inn, it's $245/night. If ever, I will be going for the Hampton Inn at $155. 6N for around $930. This already brings it to $2,845. It will also be a bit tiring driving from LA to Prescott - about 8-hrs. Assuming food at $1K for 6N - let us round off a total outlay of $4K for $600/night.

The alternative is the Pro Shooter Experience in Vegas (@NorthBay_Shooter went earlier this year)... While a bit more expensive at $4,750; it is a shorter drive and all-inclusive (4N lodging, food, prices/give-aways, etc.). Plus training with the top professional shooters... Taking into consideration the $1K goodie bag - $900/night.

Both around around $4K outlay... Hhhmmm...

The sign up for ProShooter is out there. If you want to go, put down the deposit. It is the best money you will ever spend.

Thanks, that adds perspective. If Piazza wasn't such a scum bag it would cost me 0 though. Damn I hate that guy!

Opening day must have been a dud? Not a peep nor photo anywhere?

As per Facebook, they seemingly had a turnout.

I was there, as well as at the earlier VIP opening a few months ago. I'm really impressed, but cost ain't like the old days!

It's worth noting that they are putting a bunch of money into it, and will be hosting matches and maybe even cowboy shoots. And when I mean "putting in a bunch of money" I don't mean "doc pizza" style by doing rough grading for 5 years - new ranges are already in operation.

Perhaps most significantly is the new unknown & known long distance range that's already in operation out to 1,000 yards and will be completed out to 1 mile in the next month or so.

Also, they gave Frank (for those who don't know, frank Shinault is the 50 cal 1,000 yd world record holder., and a great instructor) a bunch of money to buy some really nice equipment including Webcams at the extended range targets to record /call hits.

I was in a class and a student's 300 win mag or 338 lapua rifle ate its scope. Frank loaned him one of his personal scopes. The student's rifle ate Frank's scope as well. Frank loaned the student one of his complete rifles.

it was crazy good. As you know a total of 24 students. 3 days. Max, JJ and Doug. The students are broken into 3 groups of 8. Mostly based on perceived skill sets (previous experience, USPSA class, etc.). The groups are rotated to different bays where the instructors are located. JJ taught two bays. His core stuff on trigger control /transitions / attack & control targets, and stage strategy / movement. Max taught positioning, transitions and movement. Doug taught grip and trigger control for accuracy with speed.

I spent all of day 1 with JJ doing his two blocks back to back. That was a big benefit, since I could put into practice his stuff on a sample stage right away.
Day 2 was split between Max and Doug. Day 3 was a match to demonstrate and put it all together. Each instructor took a squad and helped with strategy and real time feedback. I squadded with Max. That alone was worth the money. To run a stage with a multi national and world champ. To hear his thought process and ask questions, was crazy. Then he would watch your run and provide feedback right after.

Non shooting stuff was the welcome dinner/social prior to day 1. A social event the night of day 1 at Top Golf. And a thank you dinner day 3.

Tons of swag (about 1k), tons of give aways including 13 guns.

I will try and write up more detail when I have some time.

@NorthBay Shooter - J, I just signed up with the deposit!!! Woot!!! I will be going with a CZ Shadow 2 this time (yeah, after years using a Glock)...

                                Looking forward to it... ...

The plan is to do the ProShooter that weekend, then family flies to Vegas the following Monday... And we would continue for Spring Break!
