Powder coating made easy

Hello all,
If anyone has been on the fence on powder coating your cast bullets but didn't want to deal with making a jig, buying the SE gun and oven and didn't like the way dry tumble looked then maybe try this.
I wanted to try PCing because I recently installed a 28.00 bullet feeder on my press that didn't work well so.
I spent 6.00 on 2lbs of Harbor Freight red. And 6.00 on chinamart plastic airsoft BB's. I didn't want to spend the $ on a oven unless things worked out.
I thought if I use a steel plate over my BBQ grill it would help regulate the heat.


I'll be damed it worked. 12.00 powder coated bullets with good smooth coverage.




The bullets even match my press and now my bullet feeder works great.

This is a highly evolving technique and it looks like you've found another way of doing it with minimal investment. Congratulations!

Is that parchment paper lining the inside of the metal tray? I thought you wanted the heat to reach 400F. That doesn't leave too much margin between "just enough heat" and "paper catching fire".

Yes it's parchment paper. And I used the same piece for 6 bakes.
No sticking at all.

Add the BBs in the container with the bullets and powder. They help add static and cushion the bullets.
I use a motorized ice cream maker I use for a tumbler that my locking container fit perfectly into. So I tumbled in that for 15 minutes while the others where baking, but you can just shake and bake.
The Cast boolits thread said to use the black BBs but I just used the cheapest because Wally's was out of the black ones.

They won't lead the barrel, if you do it correctly. Less messy than lubes and cheaper than gas checks; faster too. When I saw the racks to hold individual bullets and spraying them, that was too much work. But this tumbling and baking is a no brainer...

Well damn, they help the coating even better? Sheeit, I am gonna have to check that out now, AND they seem like they will also help cushion the fall against the walls of the jar. I will stop in at wallyworld totoday and get a pack and see how they work out.

You have to use a plastic container, something that will create static electricity. Jar? Are you using glass? Won't work.

I think I'll try the SE gun I already bought from HF first. Of course, it won't be until mid June or later until I'll try it 'cause, I gots udder ting to do first. I will probably just try making a wood block and using non stick foil. I also need to hit up a thrift store or two and find a dedicated oven.

Yeah I know dat. My JARS are the Squared Plastic containers found at Smart & Final in the kitchen wares area for about $1.49 and hold several hundred 200gr swc bullets when I PC them.

I picked up a 10k jar of the grey and black/green bbs for about $15.00.

Do you still tumble lube when you PC or just sizing?

I got through the first 10 pages of that thread, and there are two questions I didn't see answers to:

1. How long did you "grill" your boolitz at 400 F?
2. Is it necessary to resize them after powder coating? I've got some .452 dia LSWC in soft (BHN8) that I might try this for a colt. Is resizing necessary?
