That's what the dude from ammo smith uses. I always wondered where he got his bench. I'm saving this.NRA Life Member

I only spent about $70 in wood to build my 10' long bench and most of that was the 10' long sheet of 3/4" mdf.
The frame is 2x6's on edge, lagged into the studs of my wall and then three 2x4's coming down from the front edge to a lower 2x6 that is also lagged to the wall.
The top is two layers of 3/4" mdf.
The first layer is screwed down to the frame and the top layer is glued down to the bottom layer so there are no visible screws on top.Randall Rausch

Yep, this is the one I use as well. Looks nice and is pretty damn solid.A lot of people use this one with good results. http://www.harborfreight.com/workben...ood-69054.htmlWelcome to OT, where hypocrisy is King, outrage is Queen and the Kingdom is on the shores of the Denial River.

This is what I use. Picked it up at Costco. They have them every few months or so. Great value for what you get/pay for IMO.
Built like a tank, all steel (including the peg board, very surprised)
Beyond sturdy, heavy is an understatement
Mobile (comes in handy more than you'd think) with locking casters
Locked storage above
Huge storage below
Real wood (not pressboard)

^ That's a nice looking one, drkphibr!
The one I posted the link for in the OP I happened to like because of the built-in light feature. The garage where I plan on putting it doesn't have a very good lighting system (typical garage with the one bulb over by the entry door), and I'm not the handiest when it comes to mounting lighting fixtures - as in, the fire department might get a call if I were to attempt such a thing.
But thanks everyone for the great replies - I see now that I should do a lot more tire kicking and shopping before settling on a bench. I definitely don't want to go cheap and then regret it, wind up buying yet another table that I should have gotten in the first place, and spending more money overall.
Hmmm - kind of like with guns... :

This was a good looking build. I remember you posted pictures of this build. Do you still have them? Getting close to building a new bench.I only spent about $70 in wood to build my 10' long bench and most of that was the 10' long sheet of 3/4" mdf.

I got a really nice long desk at Salvation Army years ago, but I use an old solid-wood antique desk my mother gave me. It has mounting holes in it now, but she painted it before giving it to me, so it has no value anyway.
The heavier the thing it is mounted to-the better.Comment
