Reloading 9mm — I never thought it would happen...

8 pounds is 56,000 grains which works out to 16,000 rounds @3.5 grains a round... it’s quite doable, many people shoot twice that much in a year.

Oh, I know.... and I probably shoot that much or more myself. But it is spread out over Bullseye, Unique, Herco, 2400, and 700x so a 4lb can of any of those will last me a while even though I shoot a lot....... Competition, practice, and just plain fooling around.

Just picked up an 8# keg of 700X... not sure what to use it in but @ $125 I’ll do something with it.

700x is VERY versatile. Aside from the "normal" use in 12ga and 20ga, I use it for .380, 9mm, .38spl, .357, .44 Magnum, and 45ACP. I've also worked up loads for more uncommon calibers such as 25-20, 32-20, 38-40, 44-40, and even 38-55 (with a cast bullet).

Gotta agree here. It's just not worth it for me to reload rimfire ammo. Fortunately, I got my stock of .22LR before this happened, so I'm good to go.

I'm down under 10,000 rounds of 22lr on hand.
I might have to start investigating.

You will find more pistol uses for Universal than 700x.
I have more 700x uses for shotgun but not enough shotgun powders.
There's not nearly as much shotgun data for universal with the rest of the shotgun components I have as there is for 700x.

I think I'll stick with .308, shooting past 1k seems to be more technical than I'm willing to learn at this point.

I've been reloading 9mm since 1981 and it's always been worthwhile. I like to buy bulk 9mm FMJ for ultra cheap plinking, then I reload them with high performance hollow-point defensive bullets.

Top-shelf defensive ammo is just as expensive whether it's 9mm or any other caliber. If all you use for reloading are budget FMJ surplus bullets, then you're doing it wrong..
