Used to make 9mm from a 4 hole turret press and could only get about 100pcs per hour. Instead of giving up and just buying in bulk, I bought a Breech Lock Pro that can make 400 per hour. From now on I'll be stocking up by the 10k at the lowest prices. Including labor ($15/hr), I'll be at $7.80 a box for the next few years.

I just started, about 2 years ago, loading 9MM. My story is different. I started with 38/357 caliber, then bought a .380 for carry, then went to 44 mag. When I got back into handguns it was 40 S&W, 10MM, and 45 automatic. No 9MM in sight. My wife inherited a fine Walther P38 (9MM) made in 1943 and brought back from the war. Now with another 9MM I reload a bunch. Yea I shoot that pristine P38 too. So yes I just started reloading 9MM.

I started reloading in the late 1970's, 45 ACP/Colt, .357/.38 and yes, 9mm also. I have always reloaded everything I shoot, including 9mm but I enjoy the reloading process, its a hobby for me.

Hard to beat those numbers, if you can find any retail ammo right now to compare...
Was that in the 1990s? 124gr 9mm for range is 50 cents, and home defense is $1. And that’s if you can find it....

I’m about the same. Started nine only because of current prices. Luckily had plenty of stock tho knowing I would do it some day. Because even now reloading is getting bad. Some fool is selling SPP for $125 per K. And some bigger fool is gonna buy them.

A couple of years ago I bought some cases from Palmetto, and it averaged out to about $10.50/box. That was the best deal I could find at the time.....

For the last 2 years it's been about $9 a box even at single prices. March is when it started going up.

I'll keep buying commercially produced primers and rimfire ammo.
Gotta agree here. It's just not worth it for me to reload rimfire ammo. Fortunately, I got my stock of .22LR before this happened, so I'm good to go.

It was worth it to buy 9mm Para/Luger ammo up until Walmart stopped selling it in their stores. You could get Blazer Brass and Winchester for $8.97 per box of 50 all day. So, when I needed a box of 9mm, I bought it, went to the range, and policed my brass. The rimmed revolver cartridges, I haven't bought those in a long time; everything I shoot there are handloads with my own cast bullets.

It is never, *ever* wrong to be prepared to reload what you shoot, and I would even deem it as necessary. It is ALWAYS "worth it" to be able to do so.

No, as recently as Feb of this year, 86's prices were possible.

I'm happy to say I recently bought a couple bricks of SPP from a Calgunner for quite a bit less than that.

I reload for most pistol calibers and cast for them too. Reload for 4 rifle calibers too. Glad I just had a baby or I'd be cringing using my primers knowing how much it's gonna cost to replace them.

Maybe but, I've heard they don't produce good results. Last night, I did find a place that sells hand cast bullets for 7.5 Nagant.

Why? I've been reloading .25 acp for years and even have a .25 acp conversion kit for my Dillon 550. Making custom .22lr rounds might come in very useful even if you don't think so.

                              Nope, my "current" reloads...

I do not count tumble time, or press time into the calcs, as I am not searching in the Internet, or driving around for ammo...

                              I even reload .357 Mag. @ $0.233rd for 158gr Semi-Jacketed HPs, of the Full-House variety too.
I got THOSE projectiles on a closeout, hell-of-a-sale....

I have bought more bullet molds. I also have a big pile of spent primers. Homemade fulminate of Mercury (which I also have a baby food jar full of) will allow me to recycle those long after the black helicopters stop hovering.
