I have to agree. the only thing a .308 SBD has made for me is torn rims and stuck cases. and I mean in the die not the rifle. never needed a small base die for .223/5.56 or .308 in gas or bolt gun.

Me 3, I use regular RCBS full length dies for my M&P 10 without issue. Even random range brass that I later cycled through a PTR91 once or twice before will still work in the M&P.---------------------

I have found it easier to size machinegun brass in two steps: first through a Redding body die, then through a small base die. The body die does not move a lot of brass but enough to make the small base die work less. No stuck cases or torn rims here.Comment

RCBS #15501. Yeah it's the pretty common one.

I do basically the same thing. However, I use standard RCBS dies for the first sizing, then use a Dillon size/trim die for the second as it trims the cases.Last edited by Sailormilan2; 09-03-2018, 6:53 AM.Comment

Some of us don't use recycled garbage either. None of my rifles will ever see Machine gun brass.Last edited by kcstott; 09-03-2018, 9:54 AM.Comment

Now the story is starting to make sense...small base dies required because you’re using machine gun brass? I’ve never loaded machine gun brass.
IMO, it’s eaier just to make friends with the old guys at the range that have a ton of once fired 7.62 (from their M1A) in their attic. They want to get rid of the brass, and my wife can make the hell out of homemade apple pies...everyone wins.Comment

yep. and nope I used hornady unique, then tried lanolin then i started measuring. and figured out that the die is just too damn tight. It's sits in the case and I'm glad i didn't pay for it. Forster die too. never had an issue before.
But heres the deal. I don't need it. my rifles work just fine with Peterson, Lapua, and Hornady brass. i don't and won't use range trash in anything other than my .223, 9mm, and 45 ACP.Comment
