Im thinking about starting a reload setup in my garage to cut cost of ammo but have no clue/experience about the process. Can anyone recommend if its worth the investment? looking to do .38,.357,5.56,9mm,.45acp,.40,.308.

Again have no knowledge what so ever on this so any comments help

Definitely try out the search feature on the forum. There's more information here than you can shake a stick at. If you're truly intent on learning how the info is out there.

Do you have time to reload? I both everything I need to reload but so far all year I've only had time to reload 800 45acp. Remember the more you spend the faster and more reliable it becomes. I went with a Lee classic turret press. It's better than a single stage press in my opinion but cheap on price compared to a dillon or a hornady progressive press.

P.S I'd rather go progressive so I'm faster but my budget and space is limited or I would of gone with a dillon progressive press

I have a reloading station and it completely changed my world of shooting.
It changed it into a completely new animal full of excitement that never dies.
Custom rounds, cheaper, that easily out perform factory.

It of course takes a bit of dialing in with a learning curve.

            Is it worth the investment?

Let's put it this way......No ammo shortage at my house!

I have all of the ammo I want.....when I want!

            Take care

You'll rnd up spending more money to make tedious processes go quicker. Triming is the worst, and reaming primer pockets isnt fun either.

Search this forum and you will find most of you answers. Many individual factors go into it. As some have pointed out you will not save money if you end up shooting a lot more. The flip side is you are making custom ammo by definition and can tune your ammo to your individual guns characteristics for better performance. Also, every round you reload has your name on it, you own it if something goes awry.

If you are going to reload with saving money as your main object then I suggest you just stop and forget it right now.
The bottom line is you will spend just as much or usually more year after year reloading. The good thing is you will shoot more and shoot more of the hard to find ammo each year.
If you are near me(central valley near Modesto) you are welcome to come over and I will help you. I can walk you thru the steps, give you places to buy that are reasonable, give you a few tips I have learned over the years and such. I have helped quite a number of people over the years and enjoy it. I have 3 single stage presses set up and a Dillon 650. I load for many different cartridges.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

The the next thing to do is to buy a book and read that!
Then the next thing to do is to look for a calguns clinic near you and attend it!
Then the next thing to do is to buy your equipment and start!

For a complete newbie you want atleast the Dillon Super 1050 with as many accessories as you can find and Lee collet dies as these will make Tony Boyer envious and will win you any benchrest match.
Don't do anything by hand buy only machines that run on 440 volts or more.
And remember you can do it all one step at a time until you learn then crank out 20,000 rounds by lunch time.
All your ammo will win matches anywhere I know all this because I read it right here.

On a serious note find a mentor to show you the ropes.

Good instructional videos on YouTube, was a big help to me when I first started. I went with a Dillon 550b. Great machine. Time consuming hobby. Good luck.
