    Over pressure?

Hello new to sight and have been reloading for about six months .223 and .308
I am using a savage axis .308 with imr 4064. I am using 175 grain bullets from rmrbullets.com there data says the following about the bullet:

".308 175 Grain Rocky Mountain Match (250 Count)

Just arrived!! 175 grain .308 Rocky Mountain Match bullets! These are made in America for us by a government contractor that manufactures m118 ammunition. They have the exact same ballistic coefficient as the Sierra Match King. They are shipped in bulk and a few have some minor discoloration, but they are otherwise very beautiful. If you are someone who usually uses a Sierra Match King then please try these out side by side with the SMK and let us know what you think. "

    reloading data from
    hodgdonreloading.com says
    41.5 - 45.6c
I started with the 41.5 load
however I am getting case stuck in the chamber after firing and from my understanding its a sign of over pressure. I get no other indicators on the cartridge, no pushed out primers no case seperation etc.
    Any thoughts?

I take it factory ammo does not get stuck? Are you trimming your brass? When you knock your brass out where does it show contact points?

      .308 over pressure

correct factory brass does not get stuck.
I am using the wilson gauge to check over length of cartridge.

as far as making contact are you talking about the shoulder?

also I am checking my oal using the ogive which i think was 2.21-2.24

I don't see any obvious signs on the shoulder for contact.

I have heard guys mark the shoulders with markers to help what do you think?
      regards
      robert

No, where is the case getting stuck? At the base? In the middle near the shoulder? Where is the shiny mark?

          .308 over pressure

I would say there is a ring on a few at the base before the rim.

            trim

Do you check the case OAL after sizing? Your cases may be too long.

The mouth of the case may be entering the bore.

This will lead to over pressure.

Simple test. Try to place a bullet back into the neck of a fired case.

It should go in without much resistance.

Get a caliper if you don't already have one and a case trimmer.

Trim cases .010" under maximum OAL. Check them often and trim when needed.

              Highly unlikely.

Tell us moreabout the brass. Where did you get it? How are you sizing it? What is the fired base diameter? Sized base diameter?

Maybe but we need to know his process and eliminate all the possible causes.

He could have a tight chamber, short throat where the bullet has no freebore at his OAL.

When we get more information then the cause will become known.

Is this a bolt action or a semi? I was having issues like this and immediately started diagnosing my gas system, I should have just looked at my dies. If this is a semi auto rifle and your not small base sizing, you may want to start. In my case I took my Lee FL sizing die and launched it into next week and replaced it with a redding die set, no issues now.

                      It's a bolt gun.

One more suggestion. Make up a dummy round with no primer or powder.

Seat the bullet just as you did before and then rub black marker on the bullet or smoke it with a match.

Chamber the dummy round, extract and check for marks on the bullet.

Do you have access to another scale to verify the accuracy of the charge?

You can measure the area near the base and look for stretch. If your cases are stretching more than 0.001 at the base they are too hot.
It is more likely that you are not sizing that area enough and getting tough extraction.

                            need more info.
is it "your" once fired brass ?
                            what is the headstamp ?
which dies are you using ?
when you setup the die, is it just touching the shellplate or do you give it an extra 1/8th turn ?

when you put the resized brass in your Wilson guage is it also flush at the base with the guage ?

have you tried putting one of your ready brass in your rifle and chamber it to see it chambers and ejects properly. NO Primer...
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.
