Knew someone that worked there and their unwritten policy is to resell a return (marked) with those tags and do so until it comes back three times. (tracked via their system).

I DO go to FRY's (otherwise known as the F store) when I want to check out that hot network chick that wears the low cut tops and low rider pants and the guys ask her about the low shelf stuff cause they like to see her culo when she bends down to get the item... LMAO! Spent 45 minutes in the ROUTER section that one night among the crowd of about 4 other guys and I ended up leaving with a pack of ZIP ties... (55/91 location in Tustin)

I am VERY much aware of what I buy when I DO go to FRY's for the EXACT reason mentioned above. I once needed a particular MOBO, I t was a SOYO SY-5EMA+ and how the hell I remember that is BEYOND me. Prolly cause I was so pissed at the end of the day... Anyways, I went there and I found that the one off of the 91 freeway was OUT but they told me that they had 20+ in stock at the FRY's in Fountain valley (just about 15 minutes down the road). I hauled *** in my 1986 MAZDA 323 and got there in about 8 minutes (cause they were about to close that sunday evening) and I was amazed that they had a whole table of motherboards. AND apparently their policy was to open up each motherboard and inspect them and then nylon wrap them up like a present and put a sticker claiming that they were inspected in the upper right corner. Well I felt good that they did that and they did that to ALL of their motherbaords apparently because not ONE was UNinspected. Anyways, I felt victorious and I went home that night and as I cut off the nylon wrap I noticed there were loose parts in there. Heck, they must have thrown in some extra screws, how thoughtful... Then I saw what was inside. It was a Soyo mini-ATX motherboard of some sort but it looked NOTHING like the box picture. In fact, I bought the motherboard BECAUSE I needed 5 PCI slots and this other motherboard only had 2 or 3. I was so ****ING pissed that the next day after school I drove back down there and I returned that mobo with a vengeance! I was fuming the entire time because of my wasted gas and time. They told me that they had others back there and I said that I wanted a BRAND NEW one. They told me that the had 23 in back, but they were all returns. They were all returns and all sold for BRAND NEW prices. THAT was when I made the decision to NEVER buy ANYTHING from FRY'S again unless it was small, cheap, or otherwise not important, but the REAL deal breaker would be that it could NOT have any of those damn stickers on it.

So I do not take FRY's very serious when it comes to computer hardware. When I walk through the store I like to observe all of the packages that have those little white tags on them. I laughed when I saw a pack of CDRs with a sticker on it and it had been opened...

Anyways, Microcenter and FRY's usually get a visit at the same time but I drive the 40 minutes for Microcenter off of Edinger in Tustin. THAT is a GREAT store and I have bought a lot from them too but their only problem is that they are still retail and they charge tax and an e-waste fee for monitors. I like to get away with no tax and no stupid charge for BS reasons (I know it is not their fault, they have to collect that fee).

I will look around at a few of these other places mentioned. I hate Tiger Direct for their rebates. That REALLY screwed me up one night and I lost a lot of money on rebates waiting for the last minute then I could not find the stupid rebate forms. Everything else is open game to shop at though.

Alrighty, I got another comp to build so I will check out a few of these other places. Thanks for the infos yall.

There's this hobo that lives underneath a bridge 3 blocks away, he always seem to find the most interesting items and always lets me have first pick, great guy, cheaper than bestbuy

I try and go to my local computer shop, (don't mind paying a few more $$ to keep them around) kind of like the local gun shop. "If you don't shop there they won't be there"

but I will not pay 2X the going rate, $10 more on a $100 part I will pay that to keep a local small biz open.

Best buy , staples, office depot and office max I ONLY shop at if they have something on sale and that thing is USUALLY a pack of DVDs. RARELY will I find a good deal at any of those places when it comes to hardware. ONCE I paid $145 for a PNY graphics card from staples and ONLY because I needed it for the next day. I was not thrilled about the purchase though cause I know that I could have gotten it online for around $99 at amazon but oh well.

If I could I would open a Microcenter out here in Riverside. That is one store that I would love to be the manager of. I like getting their blank media, oem flash drives and media cards and their PSUs and cases when they go on sale. I think only once or twice I picked up a motherboard from them.

Oh yess, I have a calguns link that I use when I go to amazon. But how does that work? Can I fill up my cart then exit out, use the link to go back and then checkout?

Has anyone used that and does it work like that?

Microcenter usually has the best prices on CPU's so I usually go there for that. Newegg for most everything else HW related. Frozen CPU and Performance PC's for H2O.
