Microcenter left the idea of opening another Norcal store on the table, but we'll see. Their 18 minute pickup service as well as prices will be missed.

I've never had a problem with Fry's (that is, getting used for new). I've actually gotten that from BestBuy (never again big blue!).

Newegg and Amazon are next, followed by MicroCenter. Don't miss CompUSA or CircuitCity, that's for sure.

As long as you have not purchased anything with a 1.5x2.5 white sticker that said quality inspected or something with a set of initials then you bought new unless they are now just throwing things back on the shelf.

I was at best buy the other day because I had $70 in gift cards that I wanted to get rid of and I was looking at their mice but some dumbass christian group or individual had started stuffing 1,000,000 dollar bills into all of the mice and other products in that area so when you opened up the box to look (the boxes that have the velcro sticky for you to open up and look at on the shelf) this fake money falls out and then it tries to convert you. I had to run over to the surge section and borrow a light saber to fight it all back.

Pricewatch has been really good a LONG time...

eBay for cheap Via-China electronics, but I will compare Pricewatch, google shopping and eBay if I am looking for something >$35.

BestBuy, or Staples when Walmart is out, and it's really easy to compare them all... if you can in fact find a product on Walmart's site (unlike .38 ammo there ).

Newegg for components and peripherals, Monoprice for cables connectors mounts and misc.

Nice that I can Will call at Newegg if I want, as well as monoprice. Monoprice is down the street from me.

Luckily, there is an OEM shop in San Diego that I've been going to since I moved to Cali back in 2000. Chips and Memory (www.chipsandmemory.com) is off Clairemont Mesa Blvd. I go there for almost everything. Otherwise, it's Newegg.

Has anyone ever purchased the SAMSUNG OEM dvd burners from Microcenter or ANYWHERE and gotten about 1/4 fail rate?

I am going back to Microcenter tomorrow to return the last one I just bought for this computer build I did.

More like 100%. We burn a TON of discs for customers at work and we go through a TON of burners. Pioneer was the most reliable, then they started to suck. We switched to Lite-On for awhile and then they started to suck. Etc etc. Made the rounds through the brands and we are back to Pioneer again. Samsung drives have never been reliable in any kind of production capacity. We have to swap out the drives in our Kangaroo and Rimage duplicators fairly regularly...

There is a difference in burn quality too... the Samsungs have always burned very weak. Sometimes it doesn't even look like the disc has been burned. The Pioneers, man you KNOW those suckers are burned because you can see it on the disc.
