I'm dLing it right now, are you going to try it out?

One of my buddies friends is the lead designer of the game. He was showing me concept art before the game was even developed and I signed up for beta probably a year or so ago.

I have not downloaded it yet anyone else play it? How is it?

So far, that bit hasn't really changed.

Pretty good. Probably best for those who are already really into Mechwars games.
IMHO Hawken is probably the more fun choice.

I dont understand what all of the fuss is about, people getting refunds and all that. Its a beta for **** sake. There has already been a major gameplay patch as far as the mechanics are concerned. Its alot like world of tanks, but with a fitting requirement, and a pro light pilot can still handle heavier platforms. (Unlike in tanks where a t1 was a fly compared to a teir 10). People also complain about the maps being too small, but they are intricate, in the sense that there are alot of places to hide. I agree with the previous poster that I can say this is the best by far of the series. But keep in mind, its a work in progress, and did I mention, that if you want to play it, you can do so for FREE? Im willing to bet those who returned their founder's package just wanted to try the beta, and will return to some extent when the game is fully released. You can find me in the Beta under the tag "Michael Ryan" if you would like to add me in social. Just send me an invite!

Nope, won't be back to it all. Not really a fan of pay2win(why bother playing the free version if it means you'll just have an automatic disadvantage?) and I've seen nothing in the patch notes that would re-ignite my interest in the game. You also didn't need to buy a founders package to get into the beta, so I'm not sure where you're getting that idea from.

If you want to put dozens of hours into a beta that's lasted way too long(when I originally signed up for the beta the game was supposed to have launched at the end of summer, yet they're still slowly taking their time on it) and be bored of it by the time it's a "full game", go ahead.

As far as the maps being too small, they are. 1 gameplay mode, nerfed limb destruction mechanics, and LRM spam(yes I know they added the AMS but that doesn't eliminate it) with no actual cover when you're almost always within range...

                      No thanks.

Ive been checking it out. It sucks as it stands now. I wanted so much to like this, but its more like a 3d Mortal Combat than a area map. The strategy is mash the buttons and run around.

Remove the pay2win advantage or at least give non-payers their own maps.
increase the maps size to allow strategy
increase ams to nerf lrm spam...make spam shots a wasted shot

There was a game called America's Army. The original version had small maps. After playing a map a few times, you knew exactly where the enemy was without even looking, you just spam fired there are killed them. Players would cry hack in chat, but it was just experience and spam. Even after they increased the size of the map, you got to know the locations and spam still worked but also telegraphed your location.

If they increased the size of the map, the LRM would be a valid attack choice only when you knew with team work where the enemy was. At that point you decrease the effectiveness of AMS, or cone its effect.

Been in Beta since May, loving it. been playing with the same group of guys and we use strategy by coordinating over teamspeak very effectively.

LRMs need spotters to be effective, especially in maps with a lot of cover like river city and forest colony. Actually, there are a lot of LRM dead spots if you know how to effectively use the terrain to cover your movement.

I find nearly every online death match type game to be like this. Even in games where I beat the single player mode, I find I am nowhere near good enough to be competitive online.

By the way, I used to go to Virtual World in Pasadena in the 90's. They had the full on Mech simulators with the pre-briefing, decor, etc. A great gaming experience back in the day. It was right next door to the Gordon Biersch Brewery so you could battle Mechs and then debrief over beers. Awesome.
