In Store pick up method seems to be processing better than the shipping method. I kept trying for shipping method, but finally decided to try in the in store, that process was much more responsive.

Need to pay in full right now if you pre-order. I just did the pre-order online to have it shipped. Had to use AT&T's website since Apple's keeps on crashing or giving errors.
Just like the iPad and past iPhones, they are delivered & received on the actual day that Apple says they are being released. So it's much easier to have the new iPhone shipped to you (early morning delivery from expedited shipping) instead of fighting your way in line at an Apple store.... usually the AT&T stores isn't as crowded, but I think they will be with the new iPhone 4.
I'm not an Apple fan... never was and still not. I usually snicker and hate on people who use iPhones. But since my work is paying for this and the plans, and since the features on this completely redesigned iPhone seem pretty good, I might as well take it and use it as a spare phone, but still keep my Blackberry as my primary for business/email use

I did not put any money down. Since I selected in-store pick up I assume they figure I would pay in the store. You would probably need to pay in advance if you picked the shipping option.
I got a confirmation email about an hour after I pre-ordered.
Since I had the old 3G Unlimited data plan I get to keep that. See image below.
