From another phone forum I check out. Not sure how much truth there is to this, but the guy who posted it works in the AT&T corporate office in DFW.

if you choose the option to pick up your iPhone order in an AT&T store, you most likely won't have it on the the 24th. This is straight from an AT&T general manager's mouth. That's why they are telling people at the store to have it shipped to your house. IF you pre-ordered before 12pm today, you are definitely getting your unit on the 24th. After 12pm, and its a crapshoot.

From about 12:30a to about 2am, I kept trying to order from the Apple site with lots of frustration and no luck. Later found out (thru someone's tweet) that AT&T site just started taking order so I went in and got mine and my wife's. Got the confirmation emails and we're all set.....hopefully!!

Yep I to tried the Apple website, then decided to go for the ATT site- although it was a b to get it, I was sucessful after a few hours.

Heh, it's official. Apple Store says the iPhone 4 is on back order until July 2.

My receipt says ship date is June 24th, hopefully that stays true!

Does that mean if you didn't pre-order one you cant buy one during release date? I tried pre-ordering earlier today but it said it couldnt complete my transaction and that I have to finish it in person at an Apple store

Im wondering if I should get it at 7am (and deal with all the other people that can't wait to get their grubby hands on one) or wait until after work (and deal with the people just getting off work)?

This is why I just paid now to have the phone shipped and delivered on June 24. You have to pay the same amount anyways, so why not pay now and get free expedited shipping for a June 24 delivery (which you can't get anymore). Same with the previous iPhones.

While you guys are fighting with other people in lines at the AT&T or Apple stores with your 'guaranteed' pre-orders in hand, along with walk-in customers who don't have any no pre-orders but want to buy an iPhone, I'll be sitting in the comfort of my office awaiting for my package to show up for a 9:30 or 10am delivery .

Mines paid for so I am not worried, but I guess anything could change.

Just an FYI as I understand it, the preorder process does gaurentee an iPhone but does not gaurentee an exact date. At ATT in my area, for preorders we are giving people a June 25th to July 5th window to expect the iPhone to arrive in for pickup.

And for those that have preorders already done it won't do much good to stand in line on the morning of the 24th since the preordered iPhone are coming in as a different shipment.

If you really really need to have one in your hands on the 24th I would plan on standing in line early. If you want one but don't care if it's day 1 or day 14 then do a preorder and sit back and relax.
