Help !! Active duty Marine Denied DROS
Collapse

What is even more asinine than that is the fact that as a retired Air Force Budget Analyst, I was exempt from the HSC requirement, when during my entire career I never once touched a handgun. What is even more asinine is that during your 8 active years you are exempt, when you are discharged you are not exempt because you must have forgotten how to safely handle a firearm but if you serve a little longer and retire, your memory is restored and you are exempt again. Once a Soldier/Marine always a Soldier/Marine.
I had to qualify on the M-16 (converted to .22LR) in basic training.
I then had to re-qualify on the M-16 to get stationed overseas twice.
So, three times I handled a RIFLE, and because I retired, that exempted me for life from the HANDGUN Safety Certificate test.

There are NO circumstances or ability to provide your social security number on the DROS form. Nada, no-how, nothing. You are msitaking the federal 4473 with the DROS application, and the two are mutually exclusive of each other.
Putting your SS on the 4473 is about as useful as if you also put your Mother's maiden name on the 4473 - along with your blood type and preference for 36 Double-Ds - on purpose. It's not conveyed to the State of CA, and appears on the 4473 form only; it is never delivered nor provided to the State of CA during the CA DROS process, the dealer does not provide it even in a delayed/denial situation; and if there IS a delay/denial situation, the DOJ/BOF can then merely ask you for it to cross-reference.
There is NO need whatsoever for the average gun-buyer to include their social-security number of the 4473. It does NOTHING to assist, approve, or vet your DROS process easier or faster by any degree, nor does it help in avoiding a denial/delay by the State of CA.
This has been discussed numerous times on Calguns before, and confirmed.-----------------------------------------------

If some level of government had that information, what would they do with it? How would having that info benefit public safety? How would it benefit law enforcement?Comment

There's no spot for your social on the DROS. The 4473 has a spot for it and you should never provide it.Oppressors can tyrannize only when they achieve a standing army, an enslaved press, and a disarmed populace. -- James Madison
The Constitution shall never be construed to authorize Congress to prevent the people of the United States, who are peaceable citizens, from keeping their own arms. -- Samuel Adams, Debates and Proceedings in the Convention of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, 86-87 (Pearce and Hale, eds., Boston, 1850)Comment

all putting your SSN on the 4473 is give additional infomation to a potential identity theft. not saying your FFL is crooked, but perhaps an employee. or better yet, FFLs store the completed paperwork with hundreds of others. I think I saw 700+ completed paperwork packets in one box. I'd guess that stealing one of those boxes could be more valuable than a couple firearms.Jack
Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

Hey Guys, I have an update and was denied because someone stole my identity. I called the doj everyday for like a month because I kept getting the run around and finally talked to someone who can help me. I picked up my guns last week and now just need a spot around camp pendleton area to go shooting.Comment

Go to the pistol range in Margarita 33 area.Comment

Congrats on getting it straightened out.
This should be a life lesson for you though. When confronted with something (by DOJ/wife/girlfriend/etc) instead of blurting out and coping to the worst possible thing it could have been (drugs/affair/etc) you should have simply stated what happened (denied) and then researched the situation to come up with the appropriate response.Comment

Are you SURE the denial was relate to old drug charge?
'cause I've heard of active service getting denied because their residence info was somehow not jibbing due to them being all transferred around with a string of out of state addresses, or active DL in other states or something.Am I a good shot!?!, YEAH I'M A GOOD SHOT!....i just got bad aimComment

dont worry my old hsc card had no expiration date, was told its good for lifeSeveral years ago Veterans were exempt. I called a LGS, told them I was a veteran and what do I need paper wise too bring. They told me, drivers lic.,car registration and a copy of my DD-214. Also I left the copy of my DD-214 for their files.
Went back to buy another pistol about a year later and they told the DD-214 doesn't work any longer. Need a HSC card!
then one day it was no good, you think after owning one handgun or rifle now you dont need the card after all safety tests seem the same when I originally took it, and when I recently took it to get my riflesigpicComment

It pays to check the threads original date and then read the whole thing before posting...Are you SURE the denial was relate to old drug charge?

Congrats on sticking it out man! I'm glad you got your guns. For all those guys who advised you to just build 80% should really think about what they are saying. We are supposed to stick together and help each other out. Not help each other into trouble. Shame on all you guys who threw that out. Not only that you guys would be the first ones complaining when we can't build anymore not thinking you cod be part of the reason why. Never mind the fact you gave someone advice that cod land them in prison.Comment
