Searching for small weapons storage locker!

Hi Folks,

I was wondering if anyone new where I could buy a weapons storage locker like the one listed on this URL.

DLS prices seem pretty high, about $600 for the small locker.

Does anyone know where I can get something similar for less money?

I got this at Harbor Freight for my ammo. $323.24 out the door. The harbor Freight link shows it as $399, but at the Orange store it was $299. Digital keypad.

Hopefully someone has seen the locker style enclosure that DLS sells above, and knows where to get a cheaper version..

It would help if we knew what it was for.

1. Why are you looking for a locker/cabinet as opposed to a safe?
2. How many guns are you storing? longarms? Pistols? Ammo too?

Costco has some pretty good deals on gun safes. Turners usually has one or two on sale also. Turners sucks and all, but sometimes they have pretty good deals on gun lockers.

Good questions..

Some notes:

--I have limited space, so I'm going for something no deeper than 15 inches or so.. The locker seemed to be a good choice, but the prices are crazy.

--I want quick access to the storage unit, and safes seem to slow things down I guess.

--This storage unit would go into a safe room which is already closed off with thick steal walls and heavy duty locks and bolts. Because of this, i was actually considering the pegboard idea, mounted up against the safe room wall, using gun hooks:

FYI, if you shop around the local IMEX's and/or commercial or local government surplus liquidators, you can many times get used lockers very cheap to free (you haul it).

Just sand them down, take care of rust, hammer out a few dings, and repaint them. I've got a buddy who keeps some of his rifles that he shoots a LOT in one of those, plus some ammo. He got it dirt cheap at the big surplus place in Fullerton (local gov surplus, not mil).

If the room is already secure, you may want to consider the fact that putting the guns into safes/lockers creates a whole new prob of enclosed spaces + moisture/humidity = rust to deal with.

Check out this thread for some idea of what you're looking at.

At the very least consider that, you'll probably want to add some kind of heating or dehumidifying element to each case. These Golden Rods are supposed to work well. They operate by raising the temperature to raise the dew point. Kind of like the defrost on a car's rear windshield. I should note that I've never tried one though - I just use desiccants and deal with renewing them every week or so.

In any case, since the room is secure, you may want to consider a simpler wall mount to avoid the rust issues. Then again, is it really secure? Costco usually has pretty good deals on safes. There are certainly much better safes, but I don't think anyone would argue that they are less secure than a locker. A safe with a digital keypad entry is pretty convenient and quick to access really. Maybe not SHTF quick, but convenience quick for sure.
