Martin Retting Store Am I wrong??

First off I don't intend on bashing this gun store....but the way things transpired left me unsettled and thought I would get some other input and if I am being overly sensitive...

Story: Went to pick up a gun that I had completed a transfer on 10 days prior...I was greeted by one of the younger entry level employees...he was very accommodating and treated me with respect...SO he went in the back and retrieved my gun and paper work....during the finalizing of the paper he noticed I was from Ventura County...He then said hey...you should apply for a CCW...I laughed and said yes!! I already did and was 7 months into the process...at that very moment another older guy working there who looked to be an owner manager or long time associate with the store...turned and looked at me with a look on his face like I was completely out of my mind...I have never seen such a look of disgust!...SO I said whats wrong??...he turned back to his customer...I said again to him..."What you don't like CCW"???..he flat out ignored me...then "he" commented something I couldn't hear to his customer..and his customer glanced at me and they both laughed....at that moment I was about ready to go off!!..but being a classy stand up guy I let it go....I just can't image other humans can be SO rude and have so much animosity toward others...let alone customers!! Just my two cents on Martin Retting GS...not sure if I will be back...

I have not had rude people when I have gone, but their customer service setup blows so I rarely go.

They are haphazard (a polite phrase) in how customers get served when busy and if all are selling guns, no cashier for others who just want to buy ammo or supplies and get the heck on with their lives.

The way I look at most people like that...I can find disrespect anywhere. Get on the freeway, the grocery store or like yourself, go buy a gun. People generally have no regard for how others feel, so I choose to celebrate the folks that do. I could go on with examples, but as stated (most) people really don't care. Maybe you had a badazz truck out front & he's hatin' on that too, never know. Go shoot your gun & have some fun!

I have chosen to avoid that place since the 1980's.

I avoid the old people working at gun stores, especially the ones wearing vests.

I have a good idea of what actually happened and who it may have been, and the joke was not on you, and nobody was laughing at you. The joke was that you are "privileged" and lucky, and special, a foreigner from another country with freedoms not common inside the oppressive country of Los Angeles County - for whom they were in awe of you and disgusted by such a infidel invading their Totalitarian state.

                And joked about it.

The joke was the juxtaposition of their situation versus yours, like being in the presence of a being with magical powers and not worthy. You didn't get it, because you let a concocted inability to be self-deprecating or defensive paranoia and a lack of self-esteem get the better of you, assuming everyone is laughing at you.

They weren't. Your connotation of social discourse was incongruent with theirs, the humor was lost on you, and you jumped to conclusions. You were looking to be offended so you were.

                Odd but true.

If some level of government had that information, what would they do with it? How would having that info benefit public safety? How would it benefit law enforcement?

I'm guessing it's because that store is in LA and the LA sheriff's basically don't issue CCW's to hardly anyone. He probably said something like "yeah right he has a CCW". I doubt it was personal.

Just as a side note, was your handgun an off-roster pistol?

While I know Martin B Retting sometimes has issues with PPT'img an off roster handgun, maybe the guy knew the Ventura CCW process where they don't allow off-roster guns.

Martin Retting has a monopoly there since there are no other gun stores close by and a bad attitude goes along with that.
The younger kids working there are always nice but some of the older guys are quite nasty to say the least especially the owners and the managers. They have been telling people for years that SSE is illegal because they sell enough to the uninformed and their prices are always way above other shops.
There is an older guy there with a pony tail and I have personally heard him twice telling people that Springfields custom shop is the size of his store!! They live in their own world and apparently have more business than they need or can handle. so they do not care if they offend you and mostly cator to the yuppies and the local gangbangers and show no interest in dpong PPTs or talking to the real gun guys. Search the forum for my user name and you will see alot of others who were treated badly in one way or another. You are not the only one.

No offense, but you sound like a drama queen. It wouldn't bother me in the least. You might not fit his stereotype of what a CCW holder should look like.

I've been shopping there for years, I remember going into that store with my grandfather when I was a child. I have had several really bad experiences with customer service there but they all involved the same pony tail guy who reminds me of the comic book store weenie from the Simpsons. I won't dismiss the whole store due to one guy but unless I'm looking at Vintage or used long guns, I give my business to PD Gun.
