M.B.Retting has always been hit or miss. I've been there a few times in the
past 20 years without any real issues. I've been in the place when other people
have had issues and the situation got really ugly. At the end of the day I
got what I needed. Gotta laugh at the reference to the " pony tail guy"
being the comic book store owner from the Simpsons! Pete

In years past I used to have a great time looking through racks of surplus prop guns from local movie studios, along with Mecca Hobbies across the street. These days not much I’m interested there however. No better or worse than Turners at the end of the day.

Oh, Did I love Mecca Hobbies! I'm certain I bought the owners (Lauren) house and boat.

He had the best and most unusual stuff in there.

Well maybe...but I was just being polite and answering the sales guys question he asked me...I was FAR from boasting about CCW....I shouldn't be condemned with a death look from some moron for answering a question...

Also so called Pony Tail dude during my initial process and first trip to Reg gun kept butting in making stupid comments and acting like a pompas A hole!..making himself look very insecure...sad part is...NONE of his input was even needed...again I was already being helped by one of the younger guys who was doing a great job!

Don't go to gun stores to make pals or get your ego stroked.

You get the gun; they don't.

The infamous Ponytail guy. I have not seen him greet anyone who steps in the store so when I do shop there and I see him, I just greet him myself just to change the dynamics and get help from the other guys.

Sometimes you just have to be a thick skinned person to get along in this world. My wife is always asking me about random people around me, things like.... "Did that person honk at you?" or "Did you see the way they looked at you?"

My response is always "I didn't notice them, why would I even be concerned with a strangers opinion of me?" They have no impact on my life unless I want them too.

Yeah... I used to frequent MBR. Before they started stocking black rifles, they once refused to sell me scope rings after I told them it was to mount a scope on an AR. They insisted bullet button ARs were illegal and I was going to go to jail for having one... I did make some purchases from Randy, who was great. Of course, he no longer works there (went to Turners).

Especially since the ONLY one responsible for your response is YOU.

Just like any other store selling something.

Never had a problem in Rettings, but unfortunately their prices aren't really competitive so I very rarely stop in.

OP, if you didn't actually hear what was said, how can you assume the employee's comment was even about you? He may have been sharing some anecdote with his customer, got distracted by overhearing something about CCW, and then resumed his story which apparently had a humorous ending.

There isn't any real basis for your complaint other than eye contact. I'd let this one slide.

While I know Martin B Retting sometimes has issues with PPT'img an off roster handgun, maybe the guy knew the Ventura CCW process where they don't allow off-roster guns.
Or, maybe they were laughing at people who don't know that Ventura County does allow off roster firearms on CCW permits. Close to half the guns I've certified for my Ventura County CCW students are not on the roster and they still end up on their permits.

The joke was that you are "privileged" and lucky, and special, a foreigner from another country with freedoms not common inside the oppressive country of Los Angeles County - for whom they were in awe of you and disgusted by such a infidel invading their Totalitarian state.

                                And joked about it.

The joke was the juxtaposition of their situation versus yours, like being in the presence of a being with magical powers and not worthy. You didn't get it, because you let a concocted inability to be self-deprecating or defensive paranoia and a lack of self-esteem get the better of you, assuming everyone is laughing at you.

They weren't. Your connotation of social discourse was incongruent with theirs, the humor was lost on you, and you jumped to conclusions. You were looking to be offended so you were.

                                Odd but true.
True, one can only feel the way they want to feel and let others affect their feelings. But had I been in his shoes, I would have asked as well what the problem was, if it was as you said I would have said that issue isn't my problem and what your doing is discriminating on the fact that I have what I have and you don't, so yes their is a problem because when I am a customer I deserve respect and any social or political issues you may have are your problems not mine and by making rude or sarcastic remarks isn't a sign of good customer service.

I have never been to this store so I can't say about it first hand but it doesn't seem like I will be rushing in here either since I prefer going in somewhere I am treated with decency. And if he is a foreigner and the store has some problems with U.S. citizens having CCW or Firerarm's then it sounds more like a race issue and not what your disguising it to be because at the end of the day, born here or not he is a citizen and deserves the same amount of respect you feel your Anglo-saxon brethren deserve as well. I stopped seeing colors along time ago when everyone around was green and since then have learned to not accept your point of views since they are that of ignorance.
