As an fellow armed guard I've heard this, too.
No matter how justified the shoot, if Defense finds out you monkeyed with the trigger (lighter, crisper etc) they will say you in fact ACCIDENTALLY shot the 'victim' and try to sue you for all you got, AND if you change anything the gun maker's legal support will end.
IMO they sorta have a point. You will be amped during a real shoot so your trigger judgement will be skewed. Then if you do accidentally shoot, you might try to make your story fit the shooting.
Sorta like why NYPD has really high trigger setting.
I'd also go for 9mm instead of 40. 40 is if your job requires you to deal with Angle Dusted zombies. 9mm should be good for anything else, and better at follow ups. But they also sell "low recoil" and "FBI" loads for 40.
"Many of you are suggesting off roster pistols however, armed security guards are not roster exempt...unless the employer issues them a gun. "
Huh? I'm guessing any legally SSE(then 'modified' or not) gun owned by a guard is GTG as long as guard has that caliber on permit, etc, etc, etc. Yes, you would need to do the SSE thingy for that extra frogskin or whatever.
NEW HOLSTER??? I've got one of these for Glock 35 in basket weave. The basket weave is duller than the other accumold elite stuff.. http://www.safariland.com/retention/...sls-23329.html
I wouldn't want to get into quick draw contest. It also tears the hell out of the cheap stock plastic front sight. Does say it is better for some female users. I'm 250+ lbs so wearing any gun belt and getting into car with seatbelts is tight.Last edited by The Last American Hero; 10-31-2014, 7:56 PM.Am I a good shot!?!, YEAH I'M A GOOD SHOT!....i just got bad aimComment

I appreciate all the extra help from the people making useful suggestions. But despise some of the elitest snobs. That think they are schooling somebody. Thanks for the help.My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Hosea 4:6

We've already been down and tried all the popular models. Yeah I guess the barrel is a bit much. We have plenty of guns and gun knowledge at my house. But I choose not to close minded and hear others opinions. My wife has been an armed guard for about two years now.My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Hosea 4:6

I carried Glock 40 cal for over 10 years, I scored an 18 last time I qualified. It took me a while to figure this out, but the 40 is about the hardest caliber to shoot, very snappy. I ended up with a Gen 4 Glock 45 and scored a 28 the first time out.
I'm not saying to get a Glock, but I'd hope she's open to trying both 9mm and 45 to see if she shoot either of those better. Shot placement trumps caliber. Our department orders ammo that goes to a specified depth, so no matter if it's a 9mm, 40 cal or 45 they are all formulated to penetrate exactly the same. I love the Browning HP, it's an awesome weapon. Since weight is an issue, I think about the lightest thing out there would be a Gen 4 Glock 9mm 17/19/23. Again not saying buy one, but can't hurt to try one.

Best duty gun.
for armed security DO NOT modify the gun in any way. Buy with night sights from the factory and leave it as is. Modifying a duty weapon is just asking for trouble. Only thing i would add is a Streamlight TLR-1S
Go to range and rent. Glock 22,23 Sig P226,P229 HK USP or USP Compact is where i would start.
The best gun is the one she likes the best
Also should be in at least a level 2 retention holster. Surprised her company even lets her work with just a level 1Last edited by Eldraque; 10-31-2014, 10:11 PM.Comment

They make the Safariland 6280 in basketweave for all sorts of guns. Excellent holster, way way better then a Serpa.
You're kidding right? You said "duty weapon for armed security guard".
That mod list sounds like a wannabe competition gun and will make her look like a Mall Ninja.
First up the differences in the G22 vs G23 are IMO not worth it being a duty gun that is open carried for the minimal amount of weight that is saved. BTW you know the lighter the pistol the more recoil right?
Green Laser.. not really needed but could be justified.. If she "needs" a laser I'd advocate more training over the purchase of a laser. Any ways its added weight that messes with your other weight cutting ideas.
Night sights.. ok thats fine.
3.5 trigger.. most will say not on a duty weapon but I have seen PD's that run G34 and G35... But still I don't think a security guard needs it.
Salient arms barrel... the most WTH thing on this list. What in the world do you think this is going to do for her over a stock barrel? Some will also argue that its not a good idea to swap out a barrel on a duty gun.
Ever heard of the old what if she is on trial and they ask why the gun has all these aftermarket features debate?
I think you have let your imagination run wild with what cool things you can slap onto it and come in under the budget number. Step back and see what is actually needed for the job... not what would make a fun range gun.
BTW does her company have any rules on what can be carried (including accessories and modifications)? Might want to look into that...I would say try out an XDm, but being that you all are in the people's republic down there, may have to say check out an XD .40.
I like my H&K USP .40 as well.
As an OWNER of a private security firm here in WA state, my guards are required to keep their weapons STOCK. Yeah, that's all I need is one of your home brew ebay mods to your gun coming up in a civil case after the shooting. Lawyers will spin anything, even if us people in the know here, know the modification is safe.
"Look, you can see here the defendant put in a lighter trigger, as you know that makes it easier to kill people"I can understand the higher risk of an unintentional or negligent discharge due to a lightened trigger. But do you guys have any actual court cases where a prosecutor tried making it look like a bad shoot because of modifications done to the gun? I'm constantly hearing people talk about how gun owners shouldn't do certain things (use certain types of guns, ammo, modifications, accessories, etc.) because a prosecutor would attempt to use if against them, but I rarely hear of actual cases being cited. If the risk was that high, we should be hearing of cases like that a lot...As an fellow armed guard I've heard this, too.

I really liked that holster. It's definitely one to consider. We've still got to wait for the weapon first. Thanks for the link.As an fellow armed guard I've heard this, too.

It's not as simple as just dismissing it though. I'm all for making the gun as easy as possible to shoot without the possibility of a ND, but it is true that a lighter trigger can result in extra questioning that may not have been there if the gun was stock. It's a matter that is dependent on a situation and so saying there's not strong/any case history so that makes it okay to do is just wrong. Bottom line: if you have to use your firearm and the trigger is modified, they will find out and in the right situation it wouldn't be difficult to make it look like you had a ND and shot someone. Does that mean you shouldn't modify your trigger? Meh. It's up to the user, but those rare situations do occur and the last thing you need is the jury being convinced that you shot him accidentally. They could also attempt to show that even if you have a stock trigger. But if the factory trigger suffices, why mess with it?
There are a lot of cool accessories and add-ons nowadays, but just because they seem cool doesn't make them practical IMO. A laser is a perfect example IMO. Seems cool but not practical IMO. A stock Glock can be an absolute beast... But only if the shooter knows what they are doing. I would say forgot the additions and train more.
My suggestions would be a Glock 22 and an M&P40 (newer production M&P). The newer M&P has a much better reset than the older ones. The trigger is still on the heavy side, but I think it feels fantastic overall. If the trigger is too heavy and you are allowed to modify it, get an Apex DCAEK and a polymer trigger replacement. Makes it a whole new gun.Comment
