My wife and I have a difficult decision to make. What new pistol to buy, for her duty gun? Any body want to give their two cents a try on this one. Here are the qualifications. She wants a forty cal under lets say $1000.00. She's currently running a Browning hi power practical in .40 cal. But is a bit to heavy. I am trying to steer her towards either a glock 23 which would be givin the works: ct green laser nite sigts 3.5 pound disconnect and a salient arms barrel. Or a H&K p30. In .40 Cal.I recommended nine mm but she wants more knock down power but less kick then 10mm or less desirable .45acp. The lighter the better. She has a small frame and small hands. About 5'5. Let the discussion begin.

Best duty gun.

We already have the only reasonable Gun Control we need, It's called the Second Amendment and it's the government it controls.

The 23 is a good choice, but it comes down to what she can shoot well and what feels good in her hands.
I wouldn't lighten the trigger on a duty weapon though. If it's a competition or target pistol then go for it, but if it's to protect my life I'd want the most reliable set up available."Bangarang Peter!"Comment

Sorry. duty weapon for armed security guard. Her current method of carry is a level 1 serpa holster foa a 1911 it fits the BHP .40 perfectly. My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Hosea 4:6

Oh, has she tried the grip on the shield? If I were here I'd go to a gun store and check the grip on several models to see what best fits her hand, then I would find a range that rents that model and have her shoot it. It all really comes down to her hand size and what she shoots best.Only slaves don't need guns

Why is a lightened trigger less reliable? The 23 is a good choice, but it comes down to what she can shoot well and what feels good in her hands.

I know your question was specifically directed at “which .40”, but may I suggest she take a serious look at the different quality 9MM’s. While I am not interested in starting or participating caliber war, given the recent advances in 9MM ammunition technology, the 9MM will do everything the .40 can do and in many respects is better.Last edited by 003; 11-01-2014, 7:56 AM.Comment

First off I wouldn't change anything internal from a stock pistol for duty. In the budget your talking there are lots of choices. My personal choice would be a Sig, and that is simply because Glock's don't fit my hand right. Whatever you do don't go cheap on the holster, a level one holster is not a good choice for a duty holster. At the very least a level two, preferably level three. And practice lot's with the holster before it goes in service.Comment

Your preaching to the chior. I know and totally support this. And I recommended the vp9 but you have to let your women decide for themselves. I can only make my educated recommendation. The rest is up to her. And she insists on a .40.My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Hosea 4:6

What model of sig are you talking p320 or? I also know not to skimp on the holster. She just got a new rig everything's bianchi accu mold basket weave with hidden snaps. Everything except the holster. Which will probably be next after the new weapon is acquired. In which case will probably be a level three: serpa or safari land but its gotta be basket weave.First off I wouldn't change anything internal from a stock pistol for duty. Step 1...Set a budget, which you've done.
Step 2...Step aside, let her find a trainer, and let her select her own weapon.
