The only issue I have seen with the Ruger is that the chambers are rough and spent shells don't freely drop out.

I know that brownells sells a hone to polish the chambers to prevent the sticking.


The Rugers are overbuilt and will last forever.

Definitely Ruger. I've heard of issues with Taurus over 20yrs ago and still continue to hear about issues with Taurus

I was at a City Arms they has a Taurus 92 clone, on consignment apprently only fired 200 rounds. Honestly looked new, pressed the mag release no mag drop tried to strip the mag from the pistol stuck...

same gun was checking the safety sweeping it up and down after the 3 sweep fell apart Wow!! I can only image how there revolvers are, that being said get the Ruger I would!

My GP 100 is at least 25 years old.
My friend bought it new and never shot it.I bought it from him before he passed away.
To this day ,I have not fired it.

I've actually got both, GP100 is much better quality, but damn heavy and the grip is kinda fat for my hand. Have had it for 10 years, and the only issue is there some pin that slips out of the cylinder release, nothing a little loctite won't fix.

My Tracker has been 100%, but I've only had for a few months a put a couple hundred rounds through it. I like it and it's gimmicky features -- the 7-round cylinder, the porting and the ribbing on the grip. Fits my hand better than the ruger too.

Great choice on the Ruger. I have had a 4" GP100 beside my bed for going on 30 years.

One advantage of the Ruger is it is the only pistol that Crimson Trace makes laser grips for which can take a CR123 battery as the power source instead of the little watch batteries. Mine still has the original battery going strong

If I had been able to find on at the time I would have gotten a Ruger. Couldnt find one in stock (newtown panic) so I bought the taurus which was also about $250 cheaper. I got the 4 inch model. I was having a issue with the cylinder lock so i sent it in to taurus and while it was there i had them put a 6" barrel on it. She runs like a champ and that was the only problem i have ever had with it.

I also was deciding between the 686 and the GP100. I went with the GP100. Not just because it was $100 less. I like the look, feel and weight of the Ruger. Also the front sight was simple to change to a HiViz fiber. It was also easy to change out the rubber grips to a Hogue Cocobola wood grip that I wanted.
I have no regrets so far. There are a few tiny spots on the stainless that could have been finished a little better, overall I think it's beautiful. The trigger feels good and the accuracy is dead-on for me.

What's the cost difference ?
I own a Taurus and it has not given me any problems, further Taurus like Ruger has a lifetime guarentee .

Some years back the Taurus CEO publicly exposed the very anti gun, accused rapist Bill Clinton, about his idiotic policy's regarding gun manufactures.

So politically Taurus has the edge. Guarantee is the same. I would consider price and over all appearance on this one .
