I ran into a similar practice at a local outdoor range. They don't allow any human shaped targets. I guess this is an old school thing because some old timers said there used to be quite the stigma attached to target shooting at human shapes if you weren't military or law enforcement.

Indeed. Why instigate it if you claim to hate it so much?

Someones range, someones rules and since it's their property, it's up to them whom they want to make exceptions for.

If you open up your own range, you can tell LEO to kick rocks. I wouldn't but that would just be me playing politics with the local LEO.

I have a membership at Sacramento Valley Shooting Center. And I follow the same rules as anyone else.

I like having plain clothes leo's next to me at the range. 1, you know that guy isn't going to show his girlfriend how safe guns are when he thinks they are not loaded. 2, you can shoot like them and not get yelled at for it. Just don't do it all the time

They do the same with most silhouettes which I thought was strange. I don't know about bringing your own though.

Maybe I'm naive but I have never heard of a public range doing something like this... Maybe it's a regional thing?

"so its ok" was the range staff answer to you, but you still had to start this snarky thread

But hey, I guess I should have rehashed the same post mass shooting rhetoric since that seems more relevant this week.
So which one of Cooper's laws were broken by the off-duty LE? In what way was he being un-safe? Did you tell the range staff how he was being unsafe?

Are you upset that the range doesn't allow you to do the same rapid fire, holster work?

I am sure if you have trained/gotten to know/demonstrated your proficiency with your holster/rapid fire work to the range staff you would be allowed to do the same thing...unless you answer them in the same manner to which you've answered folks in your thread.

In what way was my thread snarky? My response to you was snarky because you obviously failed to read the thread and thought you had a "gotcha" forum moment where you got to be right for once.

No, I'm not mad I don't get to rapid fire or draw on the range. It is a range open to anyone willing to pay $15, sign a waiver and shoot. In those cases it makes sense that everyone has to follow safety to the lowest common denominator, that way people who aren't proficient don't get crazy ideas, get in over their head, and end up hurting themselves or others. If I want to rapid fire or draw from a holster I simply go shoot at one of the half dozen private places I can shoot at.
