Well if it got any blood on it, now evidence, the cops wouldn't have cleaned it and that sticky mess high in salt would have done a lot of damage to the weapon.
Seen some threads and pics from other forums of similar circumstances.
Just another reason I wouldn't want it.

Maybe it was a "crime" I was thinking of since my friend, who is waiting to get his recovered stolen pistol back, was told by the cops that had the BG actually managed to get off a shot with it at the arresting officers, the gun would be gone for good.

I thought they destroyed all long gun records after 30 days, that's why they wanted registration on long guns starting 2014?

That's what has me thinking... I didn't think they'd keep records that long so how could they figure out it belonged to me at some point? Obviously someone has records of something...

The two detectives really thought I had something to do with this suicide, too. They weren't hostile or anything, but some of the questions they were asking were definitely questions they'd ask a potential suspect. "What is a gun attached to your name doing out in (insert city here) when you don't know anybody there?" I don't know if they were trying to see how I'd react but they even wanted to keep the original copy of the bill of sale. I let them take pictures of it but obviously it's a wise idea to keep all of your paperwork for incidents like these.

stonefly-2: You don't have to believe me as I understand there's a lot of BS online and everywhere else for that matter but I'm telling you all the truth. I'd have to be a pretty sick person to make up a story like this.

so you were going to explain to the detectives you sold the gun long ago but that you wanted it back?

Well , by the time you get it back , if ever, the brain matter/blood/bodily fluids will have time to cause some serious rust ( and they don't clean them)which leaves you with a BIG mess to clean your self.

For a Mossy , let them keep it.

Why wouldn't I want it back? Yeah, it's got a creepy story behind it, but they're probably just going to destroy it. If there's a small chance that I could get it back then I'd be willing to try, which is why I'm asking.

You just don't get it do you? Nobody on this forum is going to help you commit a crime so you can fraudulently get a firearm returned to you that you do not own. In fact what you are attempting to do is a federal felony.
