OP states in the first post that "I sold the gun to a local FFL in 2008"
This is NOT a PPT, so no 4473 would have been filled out at this point to link OP to the store or any specific transaction thereafter... However, I believe the FFL does fill out a Pawn / Consignment slip which would definitely link the Make / Model Serial # to OP.
I am not knowledgeable about what is done with these slips, but I had the impression that they were either available for LEO inspection, or submitted to a local LEO department.
Maybe Librarian or some other person who is smarter than me can give you the legal specifics on the pawn / consignment slip and how it is disposed of after a sale to an FFL is completed. This was the first thing that came to mind upon reading your post, hopefully this helps everyone answer some of the questions in this thread.
