    Worst first Handgun?

So, I know there are plenty of good choices out there for a first handgun. Usually people recommend a service size 9mm, or a medium size .22, or a k-frame .38 (or equivalent) depending on what the handgun is for.

But what is the worst handgun you could recommend to someone looking for their first gun? What is something that would be too hard to shoot or is otherwise very impractical for a first time handgun shooter?

I was thinking something ridiculously large in caliber or small in size. Like a short barreled, small framed .44 Mag

Or like, something ridiculously small with a heavy trigger....

What other handguns would you absolutely never recommend as a first handgun?

Harley: "This here's a Ruger, Super Blackhawk, .454 conversion."
Marlboro: "That's too much gun for you, Harley!"
Harley: "It's what I learned with."
Marlboro: (laughs) "Nobody learns with a converted .454."
        Harley: "I did."

        Marlboro: "Well, that explains it."

Any sufficiently large caliber double-action or autoloading handgun can be dangerous to a novice shooter.

There are also handguns that can be hazardous if you use an improper hold -- super short barrels, things that promote hands near the muzzle (i.e., USFA Zip .22), or ones that are easy to drop.

But a huge revolver has both of those issues, since the cylinder gap will turn your fingers into hamburger if you're not paying attention. So, I'll go with that.

Unless full auto is an option, of course.

Winning is half the battle. The other half? Why red and blue lasers of course

2" Snub nose .38 special. Bought it for my wife and after shooting it for just one round, she hated it so I got rid of it.

I would agree just for the price and maintenance, but not a bad shooting gun.

I've always seen the lgs used cases full of pristine, polymer, 45, compacts. I always assumed most of those were someone's failed attempt at a first gun, probably not even a full mag run though them.

The old timers tell me that back in the day it wasn't unusual to buy a pristine 29-2 that came with a box of ammo missing 6 or 12 rounds.

I recall listening to a pro-gun radio show where a caller asked for first handgun recommendations. Before answering, the show host asked the caller what guns were being considered. His answer was a S&W 500. Basically, the caller was looking for validation that he's making the right choice. Oh, and one more thing. The caller had not previously used a handgun.

By the end of the call, I was convinced the caller wasn't going to heed the radio show host's advice and would purchase the S&W 500 because it was big and went BOOM.

                          LOL.

Any magnum cartridge would not be at the top of my recommended list. Properly instructed most any gun will be manageable though I think

A lot of first-time buyers actually do purchase a Taurus Judge. Which is really, really not a good choice for a first firearm. At all.
