Posts above named the best of the offenders, DE, .500sw, .454..

I'm going to be ridiculous and say the worst handgun would be black powder pistols.

Those small derringer style pistols and specifically the Double Tap .45 would be my second place.

          Absolutely. That's what I meant

Great shooters, but that's only if you're willing to put the time and effort into one. Too many gun owners treat their guns like lawnmowers.

I'd say in general anything small/compact size(if not .22), or anything above say, 357mag. A 9mm, 40, 45, 38spl, 357mag are not going to fly out of someone hands or have any bad manners(assuming decent barrel length).
The actual value of above $.02 is less than $.01 after taxes.

I would nominate the 44 Automag.

I got an mpa 9mm defender, was not a bad gun, but a bad first gun. Traded it to someone on here for a xd 9 and am still happy with that.

"best CCW gun" - I see way too many people eager to get their CCW, have never shot any gun, and want recommendations for a good concealable gun for their first purchase.

IMHO a great gun for CCW gun is usually a very wrong choice for a first handgun.

my first handgun was a ruger super redhawk .44, 7" barrel. the only handgun i had ever shot before was my mothers berreta 92. i definitely thought with the little head on this one. but, i am not afraid of recoil lol.

                          HK USP 40.
"Slow" in expert hands compared to some other .40 platforms.
Boringly reliable and rugged design. So it was tough to raise my pistol gunsmithing skills.

Something pocket sized that is on the small size for its caliber, with a long crappy trigger, I think are the worst to learn on. Like the Keltec-PF9 9mm or the Ruger LCP .380. Not bad guns, just not really beginner guns.

Higher powered handguns like in .44mag, .50AE, .500S&W, etc, all would be poor choices as well for a first handgun. Though if you stuck with low powered ammo in the beginning for the .44mag you could be just fine.

H&K VP70,,,, worst handgun I ever owned,, awkward, bulky and a trigger pull exceeding 20lbs. Was so bad it pulled you off target just pulling the trigger. Total POS.

I'm gonna go a different route here. People have already suggested the large cartridge handguns, smallish guns with weird ergonomics or silly trigger pull weights, etc.

                                NAA mini or equivalent.

A total noob is going to have no idea how to get a decent grasp on it, the cylinder gap isn't going to take a finger off but can sting, the manual of arms isn't particularly intuitive and someone not paying attention can fairly easily end up with something in front of the muzzle with messing with the hammer. Probably a few other reasons as well. Sure, it's not gonna smack them in the face, take a finger off from an improper grip, fly out of their hand and land 20 yards away, bruise up their strong hand, but it would be a terrible first gun for a new shooter.
