Range story-BEWARE

I've been going to ASR for almost 20 years. A few weeks ago on a Tuesday
I was on the rifle range. During a ceasefire I put my Colt M4 type
on the back bench with the right side facing up. I wasn't really paying attention
to the guy next to me. He steps up to me and says,something fell off my
rifle. I look and don't see anything obvious,upon closer examination I see
a silver colored disc(that looks like an oversize rifle primer) inserted in my
mag release/bullet button. I pull it out and see it is a magnet. I hand it back
to him telling him "I don't want it ". He then proceeds to tell me it's ok and
it's legal. He then flashes a badge (OC county sheriff)again explaining it is completely legal.I
tell him I don't agree and packed up moving over to the pistol range. I have no
idea what was going on just passing it along,feel free to throw the bull siht
flag! Just an FYI if such things concern you. Pete

I've never been to this range, what do you mean "back bench"? Are you saying while your back was turned, he put a magnet on your BB? This is one of many reasons why I limit how many guns I bring on a range trip and always keep them all on the bench in font of me.

Sounds to me like he had a fake azz badge was was trying to ultimately "confiscate" your rifle.

I'm glad my local range requires everyone to step back behind a yellow line several feet from the benches during a ceasefire. Such a violation of my space would be difficult to achieve.

Either way, touching a weapon during a cease fire is a no no...specially someone else rifle when its not a safety hazard...

this... get it into his record so someone can use it in their defense if he arrests them.

I guess this response also shows that; yes I believe you. I've heard similar non gun related stories about this type of move.

Guess I'm lucky... you can stack magnets on my BB all day; won't release / do anything.

So HE committed a felony by manufacturing an illegal AW using your gun? I'd consider reporting it but, your rifle would become evidence.
