count nope i just reload until my ammo cans are full for all my pistol rounds i keep all my rifle rounds loaded and I know how much of that i have as I have limited brass for those calibers..

I have been reloading 45 like a mad man as my ammo can was close to the bottom. 9mm will be next on my list to stock up on.

Six boxes of good stuff for the WTSHTF scenario.
Enough hand loads to practice for 6 months or a year.
A few boxes of ammo to stuff your speed loaders and magazines full for things that go bump on the night.
Some specialty loads for hunting or snake & rat shot, if you hunt or are plagued with snakes or rats, and rotate your WTSHTF and bump in the night loads replacing them with fresh ammo on a regular basis and I feel adequately prepared. Beyond that is wasted money and energy and darned embarrassing if you have a house fire and have explain that mushroom cloud to the fire chief.
Why is everything a SHTF scenario? I want to be able to go out target shooting (no zombies or bad guys present) and have enough ammo in reserve so I can go out again.

And as explained in a previous post, ammo doesn't "mushroom". Don't preach if you don't know.

All ammo is in 50cal cans
All cans are labeled & or have a box top for each ammo type taped to outside
All cans have 3-4 silicate packs in it
All cans have an ammocanmagnet on outside front for quick caliber reference
All ammo is precisely tracked on a spreadsheet

I prefer to be reloading or shooting or hunting than counting ammo.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

I only counted mine so I would know which calibers I had a lot of and could afford to shoot more often.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

Why do people dump their ammo out of boxes and store it in ziploc bags? In the box it's easy to count and handle.

Room. I can get 5x the number of rounds in an ammo can if packaging is left out. For example, a 50 cal ammo can will hold approximately 2,200 rds of 40 S&W. See how many you can get in there in their original packages.

                      Storage space.

I can easily fit four times the ammo in a can after unboxing it, and putting it in bags with identical amounts means I can keep track of how much I have and I don't have to count when I grab ammo for the range, and it adds another layer of weather sealing.

My ammo collection has to share garage space with my bike, work bench, reloading bench, tools, bike parts, car parts and emergency supplies. If I didn't compact everything as much as possible I wouldn't be able to walk around.

I wouldnt tell anyone on a public forum how much ammo I have saved up. I might have 200,000 rounds or I might be down to one box of 22LR...

Ironically, that 22LR could probably trade for 300-400 rounds of 9mm right now lol

                          .

and what happens the next time there is an ammo recall and you can't confirm the lot#s of all your loose ammo?

I don't know too such about this, 'counting ammunition' business. But I do know a lot of guys, including myself, who shed a tear and say good-bye to each and every hard purchased round that flies down range.

I though I was good at counting till I cleaned out the safe today and found 50 rounds of s&b 115 gr 9mm, to bad I don't have a 9mm anymore
