I do not care as long as I do not run out.
Some firearms 100 is enough others 5000 is the number.
Some firearms for hunting 50 or less at a time is good enough.

I am less concerned about the number of loaded rounds I have as I am the amount of reloading supplies I have on hand.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

I admit that the apps are probably legit and not tracking you. But you're trusting a basically unknown app with unknown authors, and just imagine the potential for evil. Talk about handing them the keys to your castle!

So yeah. No amount of convenience is worth this risk.
You make some fair arguments but Ill comment on the bold - checking out or in takes me at most 10 seconds. I havent used ammo specific apps but the generic inventory tracking ones I have used take a lot longer to update.

I have added 500 rounds of 5.56x45mm to my 500 rounds of 45ACP.

For the other stuff, I have about 100 rounds for the shotgun and 100 for the hunting rifle too.

I get all my stuff by mail order from Cabela's. It's excellent quality that way for about 50c per cartridge.

You're always going to run out eventually -- all depends on what happens.

That's why I have two bows and lots of arrows too.

No sense wasting a valuable bullet when a reusable arrow will do the job, such as on small game.

I know EXACTLY how much ammo I have at all times:

                A sh*tload.

Sometimes, when I haven't been shooting for a bit, and been hoarding relentlessly, it becomes a f*ckload.

Good points. GPS on a device isn't really necessary anymore, as local wireless networks have been pretty thoroughly mapped in most populated areas. It is scary to think about the many ways your mobile device has for determining it's location.

Agreed, but my point is that you have no way of knowing what your app is doing in secret under the hood. Seems like a risk.

I count by the case. Anything else is just loose change.
So you the type of person when you count how much cash is on hand do you count the loose coin?
When I was younger and poorer I did... Both cash and ammo!

As i continue buying, i always have in mind my current amount...
                        Lets say i have 860rds or 5.56,
                        and i bought a 100rd box,
                        you know the rest....
in other words, since i started buying ammo, ive been counting,,,,,
                        it works for me.

Too much ammunition can more of a liability than an asset. I see guys buying up and storing cases of terrible cheap stuff for a WTSHTF scenario.
If it's not accurate in your firearm,
                          If it' not reliable,
If you need a forklift to move it all,
It is a liability, not an asset.
Six boxes of good stuff for the WTSHTF scenario.
Enough hand loads to practice for 6 months or a year.
A few boxes of ammo to stuff your speed loaders and magazines full for things that go bump on the night.
Some specialty loads for hunting or snake & rat shot, if you hunt or are plagued with snakes or rats, and rotate your WTSHTF and bump in the night loads replacing them with fresh ammo on a regular basis and I feel adequately prepared. Beyond that is wasted money and energy and darned embarrassing if you have a house fire and have explain that mushroom cloud to the fire chief.

Those of us who can afford to stock up on lots of ammo can also afford fireproof storage for it. It's also a good idea to secure your investments from theft. There would also be no mushroom cloud from ammo cooking off in a structure fire, it doesn't explode.
