Yeah, I think there was a disconnect between the RSO telling you to go to lane 1 and the young lady at the desk with people's IDs in the lane slots. They were going to throw me on lane 1 and the other two in the group on lane 4, but after that they consolidated the three of us on one lane which ended up working out.

It sucks you had a bad experience, in my opinion it's still one of the better ranges in the area.

I've showed up to busy ranges with bricks of 22 and been there for 4 hours with a group. I can't commit to a range so I've never been a member to any.

The per-hour ranges I go to also generally let me grossly exceed the hour without charging me for it on the way out.

If a range has limited space and gets busy to the point of a wait list, I have no problem with an hour limit.

As long as that is posted somewhere.

No worries mate, I'm retired. Private ranges, you wouldn't have had access to.

I'm just relating 50 years of range shooting experience, you can disagree with it all you want, wont change the way they are run.

Nope, not me, never had any problems at the company range.

I'm giving you information on how not to attract attention to yourself at the range. There are different levels control at every range, some range officers are very strict. I remember getting a warning from a match official one day because I asked my wife for a Kleenex while I was competing. I was warned that if I did it again I would be DQed (violation of coaching rule). That means I would have to pack up and leave, lose my match fee and have time to think about it on the 2 hour drive back home.

Once upon a time I was a regular at an indoor range, had good relationship with the guys running the shop...and if there was a time limit, there was no policing of it...especially if there are/were lanes available. In fact, if/when it got busy, they would let me and my buddies use the other part of the range which was normally for LE / classes / etc.

Now, I do recall it getting busy on "ladies nights", and as hot as chicks with guns are....you couldn't get me out of there if you tried

OP...could be the rules of the place that you are a member of - find out for sure, then vote with your feet.

Whew! Reading this makes me glad to have 5 Dogs Range to go to. They don't care how many per group or how long you are there. Sun up t Sun Down is their time limits!

I have a membership at two indoor ranges. If there are people waiting, they limit you to 1 hour. If no one is waiting for a lane, you can shoot for as long as you want. I only remember being told that my "time was up" once, though. Yesterday, my nephew and I had to share a lane because it was busy. But we got to spend 2-1/2 hours there, and left on our own after going through the 550 rounds we had brought with us.

My favorite outdoor ranges have no time limits.

Sorry OP but it sounds like typical indoor range BS to me. I've only shot indoor a few times and can't ever say I really enjoyed myself; well this one time in Vegas was pretty fun.
When we moved to Fresno I joined the Auberry Range. I could pack a lunch and stay all day, no would bother me one bit.

I saw your other post about it being a company range for employees and not paying customers, so in that case company rules are the law. No mater how ridiculous they might be.

It's apples-to-oranges to compare "match" rules to everyday range rules.

My Borg comment still applies in general though, as it is unbelievable that a 2A group (that's all about personal freedom and responsibility) would need advice on how not to draw attention to oneself at a range and that it is considered good etiquette for everyone to act like sheep and to ostracize those who don't.

We are rugged individualists but hey ...don't dress/act/talk different then the masses while being one.

I'm with you but my local range has yours beat. It's sunup to 22:00, so night shooting is available if desired.

I've never been tossed off of a range but I have seen plenty of people that have been. I keep my eyes open and learn from others. I hope some people can use the advice I've posted and not have a bad day at a restrictive range. Knowing a few things that attract unwanted attention might help avoiding problems, I hope.
