PM sent vs I'll Take it

"PM sent" indicates interest in item. Usually the PM is an offer at less than asking price.

"I'll take it" SHOULD be a non legal contract to purchase said item at stated asking price with no haggling involved. You know,like being a man of your word? (Which seems to not mean much in today's world)

Too many people post I'll take it & then send a lowball offer, or want to do the "will you take xxx" upon meeting. Which, to me is a real D-bag move.

i've had people say "ill take it", but still ask a ton of questions, wan't me to hold it for two weeks until they save the money, wan't me to travel 60 miles, etc... that's why i pay no attention to "ill take it" , 1st with the money takes it in my eyes.

This automatically drives the Low Ballers out of the process.

I've sold dozens of items on Cal Guns and you would be surprised at how many ridiculous Low ball offers you get, especially from low post count/zero itrader Rating people.

I do the phone number too. I am not driving five seconds without talking to an actual person on the phone for at least a minute or two.

One time i agreed on the phone to sell a handgun to a gentleman for $380 and when i got there he was like "ill give you $180".

I usually give the first person who contacted me the chance to follow through with a yes or no after answering their questions even if it takes a few days. The next person in line usually understands if you tell them you have someone interested already.

I've had people post "I'll take it" but then I never hear from them.... no PM from them, no response to my PM, whatever. I'll then just go down the list to the next buyer.


I will go by the time stamp on the FIRST person to commit on the purchase, where he will pick it up in a reasonable amount of time. After that, I start to go down the line to the next buyer. Simple as that.

I don't sell much, but for me, 'I'll take it' just means I have a bite. A PM with questions or a counter offer doesn't count as the first in line. It's the first person who confirms they'll buy it at X price and provides their details. I see a lot of people saying even those fall through often.

There are also some buyers who wish their purchase to remain anonymous and don't want to post "I'll take it" in an open thread. I deal with PMs and phone calls. an "I'll take it" better be promptly followed by a PM.

Pm sent to everyone else means your asking a question or making an offer, it's up to the seller to sell it to the first person that will pay asking price, same as if someone send a message but doesn't post in the thread.

When I buy something and am paying asking price I always post in the thread, I'll take it. That way everyone knows. If I say I'll take it all that's left is setting up a meet time and place, I don't back out unless I find out something later that wasn't said before hand.

I don't care one way or the other...the first solid offer to buy is who I go with. I always include this in my ads nowadays:

Please don't offer to buy if:
- You don't have the money
- You have to clear it with your significant other
- You want to think about it
- You don't have a Valid ID, etc., etc.

That seems to have cut down on some of the silliness...like guys saying "I'll take it!", then asking you to wait two weeks till payday...but I still get the low-ballers of course. Gotta love those guys! "Would you take $250 (for your $700 rifle)? I've got CASH!" Yeah, sounds like a plan. Tell you what? Wait for me at your LGS. I'll be there. Honest.

Contributors, and guys I've done business with before, always get priority, of course. For those folks, I'll relax the first rule (don't offer to buy if you don't have the money) because I know they're good for it.

Can be a no win scenario at times. I've responded to postings with "first I'll take it gets it" only to be told someone else beat me to it (my posting being the first response) with a PM.

Some posts specifically say only PM them. To me, that's just an under the covers auction with the buyer then deciding which offer to go with.

That being said, I consider every posting/offer a roll of the dice and it's not mine until 10 days after we're at the LGS doing the PPT.
