Quick! If I started my Dros on July 27th, when is my 10 days up?

If you took anymore than 5 seconds to answer that question, you are a complete idiotic, retard, moron, bafoon and I will never sell you a gun. Ever. If you can't count to ten that quick, then you shouldn't possess guns, pointy objects, and definitely not drive a motor vehicle

The fact of the matter is there are three different months of the year you have to take into consideration. February and months with 30 days and 31 days. Since July has 31 days, I know the background check ends on the 6th. If it was June, the back ground check would end ont he 7th. If it were February, I would have to count on the calendar because I can never remember. It is not that easy to do and it take a little bit of effort.

That being said we have always done ten 24 hour periods, unless we are closed. However, my partner Becky is pretty sharp (no pun intended) and she went a step further. She bought a clock that shows the day, date and time. She set it 10 days ahead. I never have to count the calendar anymore. Today I a customer came in and I just simply looked up at the clock and said your ten days will be up on Friday August 22nd at such and such time.

For you FFLs on board, it really makes your life much easier. Yeah counting is not that hard, but when your livelihood is on the line, the clock set ten days ahead is great. The guy I stayed with 2 hours after we closed today I told him Sunday the 24th since I don't plan on being there Friday the 22nd after 5 PM. I knew that because the clock not only told me the 22nd (which is easy since we are on the 12th), but it told me the day of the week. Tomorrrow I can tell everyone to pick up on Sunday the 24th since we will not be open Saturday the 23rd.

I'm a little disturbed at how easy some of you folks fold on waiting an extra day. The waiting period is unjustelectronic

The 11 day wait is not for their paperwork.

The 11 day wait is for the moronic customer that can't count to 10 days or adhere to it, that when their actual 10 day wait is not up until 3:38PM, but they come into the store on the tenth day at 10:15AM, being they are not a frequent gun buyer, unaware of the seriousness of the laws, the newbie or uninformed customer gets boisterously irate and loudly rude in the store at the seller because he won't release the firearm. You can tell them the exact day and time, and there are those that still come in early and get mad about it. I've seen it happen and it's very idiotic - but entertaining. It's great because it reinforces my status as a "good" customer. And it's always like Kramer on amphetamines from Seinfeld or something. It makes an uncomfortable situation in the store, when the customer is THAT wrong, especially when you would like to adhere to the edict that the customer is always right.

HOWEVER.... any store that has ever told ME it's 11 days, upon my going in on the 10th day AT THE CORRECT TIME by which my full 10 days was complete, to the minute, they have let me pick up the firearm. I have never had a problem or argument - including Big 5 and Turners; they know the correct waiting time and all they have to do is check it when they grab your paperwork. You can simply point it out to them at that time in a low-key friendly way, and I guarantee they will let you pick it up, no problem.

THAT is how it is handled - friendly, considerate, and maybe even acknowledging it at the time of sale in a cool observation and "what if"; getting to KNOW your salesman after repeated visits helps. After they know of you, know that YOU know the 10 day wait is set to the minute, I guarantee that salesman will let you pick up your gun in 10 days against store's 11 day wait policy each and every time. When they know you won't come in too early and screw them up, trust is built. Why? Because with friendly rapport, it's that way for me ALL the time, even in these 11 day wait stores. No need to threaten legal action, no need to threaten calling DOJ - that would be asinine. It's such an easy thing to handle in a polite way, and get them to release in 10 days time. I've never failed at it. Yes, it is unjust, making up laws that don't exist - but there are cool-headed ways to make it just.

Actually, this rarely comes up, but has on certain situations where business travel to a farther location, for just a two-trip ordeal, say over 100 miles, found it coincidence that the sequence of the two trips was 10 days. So it was convenient for me to buy, knowing I'd be back exactly ten days later (for pick up). Yet, it's VERY rare when I even get the chance to pick up a firearm exactly at 10 days, as it often it turns into a full 14 days because I can only get to most guns stores on Saturdays. Thus, if I am limited to Saturday to Saturday, and it can't be 7 - thus, it ends up being 14 anyway.

One gun store put a policy for 11 days, and they are too careful to avoid discussions then they do not let you pay full price of your gun but less 1 cent, when you pick up you pay that 1 cent, normally they pay for you. But you can not ask for your gun early because you still owe them 1 cent.

I like it. From now on, it is the stupid customer that is the source for the 11 day wait, not the stupid gun shop employees. I am sticking to that one.

We tell you the exact time and date and we still get a few come in a few hours early here and there. It is no skin off my nose, the law is the law and the customer can get upset all they want.

Still, the dumb customer is the reason for it. Yeah the dumb customer.

If you can wait 10, why not 11 days ( Wildsports got 11 days but they got low prices), next time a guy open a gun store with waiting period 12 days, if his price is lower, he still get some customers. But there is a limit, if a store sell guns $100 cheaper than others, but he got 20 days policy, will he get your business?

No, no... I prefer your way, and stores that adhere to 10 days. I've argued the 11 days in the past, but have come to realize that if I just show up at the correct time at 10 days, I walk out of the store with my gun 100% of the time.

The date/time clock set 10 days in advance is a GREAT idea.

It is a great idea, but from now on, no one gets to blame gun shops for the 11 day wait. It is officially because some customers are so stupid they screw it up for everyone else.

I am not a 'stupid" customer and I should not be forced to play silly games due to the ignorance of some customers. As 10% says let them get mad all they want, the law is unfortunately the law and 10 24 hr periods it is.

I once asked a 11day FFL over the phone if I could get my guns at the correct time and he agreed due to a small emergency on my part but generally I will not play those games and just try to do more business with those that can count to 10.

It's not the end all be all of deal breakers for me but as I have said, it does figure into where I want to do business. Over $35 for a PPT FFLs are immediately cut from my business though generally.

There's a place in Orangevale, CA called Wild Sports that writes a time on your pick up receipt. That time is exactly 240 hours from the time handed to you. You must pick up at or after that time. If you lose your pick up receipt, they charge you $5, maybe more, I can't remember exactly. They also make you sit in this room while some asshat "gun pro" hunts and pecks your forms into a computer. If the price on the Sigma hadn't been so good, I would have walked. ($309 OTD)

Life is too friken short to get all wound up over a shop using 11 days instead of 10 24 hour periods. Sure I want my new gun NOW...but if it is posted and you know ahead of time, it's your choice. If you just can't wait that extra day, or feel your rights are being trampled on, unwad your panties and take your money elsewhere.

By that logic, BECAUSE life it too friken short is WHY it should be 10 days instead of 11. I value the number of days I DO have, becasue life is short.

But hey, yeah. Let's just make it 15 days to be safe. Nobody should argue with that, right?

In some cases, such as when traveling, and it would be coincidental that the 2nd visit would be 10 days later, expecially at today's gas prices, yes I think stores should stick to the 10 day period, and if people DON'T get even slightly wadded up about it, then what's next? Stores start mandating their own rules for buying a gun? You can't pick up the gun until you supply the store with personal references? DNA samples to pick up your gun? Subjecting to interview with a psychiatrist just to be cover their liability? Hey, it's all just to be on the "safe side" right?

Hey, if you don't like it, unwad your panties and take your money elsewhere. I agree.

Money does vote, and when the stores are out of business, and the employees are hard up for a job, they might be saying to themselves "Gee, I wish I had treated my customers better" while we will be saying "Gee, I wish there were still gun stores in California".
