I saw a rifle (ak pattern) that I was interested in so I messaged the user. I left my number and we texted back and forth. We eventually settled on a price, time, and place. I told him to mark the ad SPF. I posted in the ad SPF to me and he even edited the post to reflect that. Well, the day before the ppt he texts me that work called him in and we would have to reschedule. I said thats fine and waited about a day to text back. I checked the ad the next day and all the info was deleted and the ad said sold. I texted the guy and no response. This really irritated me because he can't even man up and tell me he sold it to someone else.

So, can I leave negative feedback although no transaction took place? His feedback already has 2 transactions of him doing this. I feel kind of vindictive because this is happening more and more on this site.

Normally I would say no, as no transaction was made and you didn't lose any gas or time. But if he has two "priors" then Id personally feel an obligation to warn the community.

Clarification: I pm'd him at like 10 pm on 3/11. He responded and we scheduled everything by 11 am on 3/12. I had set up the deal before the other users even posted.

i had a guy flake on me twice. I drove to P2K in El Cajon and waited for an hour. Then he apologized for a communication misunderstanding. We scheduled another appointment so I made arrangements to have my in-laws to watch my kids and he cancelled around midnight the day before. I did not leave negative feedback, I figured he would retaliate.

This fascination with selling to the first poster is getting obnoxiously moronic. I sell stuff and the first poster makes his claim and poof disappears. I sell to people who pm me first. I make it clear in my thread not to post to avoid these issues. Plus, all the evidence Above suggested it was sold pending funds to me.

Sounds like he was using you as backup, but not being upfront about it. It happens, especially with some of the douche bags that populate this website.

I'd leave neutral feedback to warn others, but negative is reserved for when you are actually out money, had you actually driven somewhere, i.e. burned money on gas, the argument can be made that you took a financial hit because of the seller, but in this case you are out nothing more than a bit of frustration and a couple text messages.
