This is a good strategy. Then again, you might be able to convince her your other pistols had a baby, emphasize the wonders of the cycle of life.

2013 I've become a first time owner. With the excitement of a new hobby and panic, I went into a buying frenzy. I ended up going into some savings after ammo and range time. My finance has been patient and enjoyed going to the range with me. She usually makes me promise that my last purchase will be my last, and this time she is for real.

She really doesn't want me purchasing right now because she wants us to pay for the wedding and buy a house before I keep spending money.

I've been wanting to buy a Glock 19 ever since the hype of ccw came around. I figure you never know when this market of availability will end and I should just buy it now. I also think if I ever really need cash I could sell if for at least $450, if unfired.

Now the controversy is if I bought it I would hide it, locked and put it in a place it wouldn't be found. Then bring it up next year when adequate time has passed.

So has anyone else done this before? Someone talk me out or into it .

I would save all the plastic cans and bottles from my work. I used the money to buy all kinds of stuff. She never looks in my safe and has no idea what I have. I would do it. Once you get married, your azz is hers to control. Been married 22 yrs and I know.

Man up and save your money up for that house. You don't incur financial or relational debt for one more firearm, that's just stupid.

She is fine with you owning guns. You went overboard, tapping your savings. She wants you to be more frugal. That is not unreasonable.

If I were in a similar position, I would sit down and discuss budgeting with her. Afer necessary bills and expenses, the rest will be divided up thusly, x% saving, % paying debt down faster, % saving for house/car/wedding (some specific goal you both have that requires saving), % discretionary that you may spend on hobbies or what have you.

That would be a reasonable approach. Talk to her as a human person with a brain. She is not irrationally opposed to your hobby. If you sit down and talk about what your future goals are together and budgets, then you can secure that portion of your income for whatever you want. If you do not want a house and she does, you need to talk with her about that. If you do, then you should be agreeing that you need to set money aside for that.

It is your money, your call. But you are asking her to be, as it were, one person with you (the concept behind community property here). Perhaps you wear the pants and call the shots, that is fine is some relationships. my parent's work that way...my dad is the breadwinner and better with savings/budget/planning. But he doesn't decide anything without talking to her, or at least informing her thus allowing her to object if she wants. But if you were tapping your savings, maybe you should be more like my uncle...he makes the money, but his wife allocates it and manages it, because she is more adept at it. He wants something, he consults with her to see if they can afford it.

Many ways the partnership can work out. But what is always necessary is that you realize that it will be a partnership. And if you disagree, it is one thing to put your foot down and stand firm. But unmanly to play such childish games as deceit and hiding.

              Not good idea, me thinks.

I 've NEVER hid any of gun purchases from my wife, she sees the credit card statements anyways. Just man up and tell her

Be a man. Either tell your fiancee you're buying the Glock and have the resulting conversation or stick to your previous agreement to stop buying guns in order to save for a wedding, house, etc. Don't sneak around like a little boy stealing cookies.

Hiding things from your significant other aint going to end well. Ever.

But if you're dead set on it... Heh, I hid the first gun I bought from my mother. Pulled a drawer out of my cabinet and set it under there. "range day" became "studying day". Brought it up about four months later and said I bought it for half the price I paid Got away with my butt mostly intact, she still thinks I should have spent the money fixing my beater up more.

EDIT: one last note, the glock may well stay with you a while, skimping on your wedding will follow you forever!
So I was driving home from the range and I noticed that the scent of warm steel, burnt gunpowder and lukewarm coffee combined and smelled oddly of... Peanut butter?! Man, the Hoppe's is going to my head.

A husband that says he never lied to his wife is a liar.

It takes a lot of guns to burn up a house down payment!

Either way stay out of debt and you'll be fine. Patience wins in the long run.

Don't hide it, just wait to buy it until she goes to spend thousands of dollars on a dress and shoes she'll only wear once. Or the next time she wants to buy another purse or another pair of shoes.

If she's still buying that stuff, she should stop too. What's good for the goose, is good for the gander.

My wife gave up and just accepted that the safe magically fills itself over time. I'll probably get an *** chewing when a new safe appears though

I see several really good options.
                                1. Open a seperate savings account at a bank she is not aware of. That way you can start saving for your future divorce

                                2. Do her a favor. Break it off now.

                                3. Do both of you a favor. It was simply a fun fantasy now enjoy the guns you do have and even more so, your soon to be wife.
                                Good luck.
