Front Site Training?

I did a 4 day practical rifle a few months ago and learned a bunch. They mostly catered to the ar-15 crowd but there were 2 AK-47's, 1 Remington pump rifle, 4 bolt actions and 1 mini-14. Very informative and fun but I was exhausted by the end of the last day. I would have gotten a membership if 1. Parumph was closer and 2. I had the money. there was a 30 minute promo video that was inside the main building for those eating in there during lunch but I just hung out at the trailer on the rifle line most days.

As much as I think Naish would love to have a resort 'similar' to a high end golf course that has $100,000 memberships, he's realized that's unrealistic to keep his model chugging along.

Yup. The land right outside the gate is BLM land. Free for camping and cleaner air than inside the hotel rooms. I've never slept better than on an air mattress 50 feet from the training center. Even better than the Best Western in town. For a 2 day (where you can get away with no shower) its excellent in Fall and Spring. Winter gets too cold (no heat retention in a desert) and July is ugly for camping.

When you get your membership, there's a members only forum. There's always others looking to carpool.

I think you lost me with the math. The stand alone class, for example the 4 day defensive pistol class, is $1200 on promotion which includes a bunch of gear, belt, the xd and xd gear. I was saying that's a great deal because of the value of the gun being $600 making the class only $600. Not sure there's a better deal they offer. Or were you comparing it with a free course using a certificate? Do you have a certificate you can offer me?

rkt88 hooked me up and it iwas well worth it. Lots of very good training in the 4 day class. The training is well worth the gas and time.

I'm a member I just took a 2 day shotgun class at night it was a lot of fun the only light was your spare light or your weapon light and with no moonlight it was mighty dark

Thanks for clearing that up for me. Yes, I did mean a cert you can get off of ebay. I got mine for 80 bucks a few years ago, but added for inflation.

Plus, how do they give your handgun? They send it to a Cali FFL that you have to pay PPT fees to?

Don't forget a 50 dollar back ground check fee everyone has to pay. Only valid for 6 months I think.

Took the 4-day handgun class in April, using a discount certificate. The class was very intense and I learned an amazing amount. [I also rented a Glock 19 for the class and fell in love with it. I've since bought one. ;-)] I found the lectures (every day at lunch, plus one at the start) sometimes useful, [and a really nice way to sit in the AC!], but often irritatingly exclusive- homophobic, mysogynistic in an apparently unintended way, and annoyingly self-congratulatory.
Also, getting to shoot tactical scenarios in the Sim House was some of the most fun I'd had in years.
I'd love to take this class again. Too bad the discount certificates are only for your first time... :-)

You're not in CA anymore... My guess is the "vision" and direction Dr. Pizza espouses at the resort is uber-macho, uber-neo-con, and that means there's probably trainers/staff that espouse such homophobia. Sure would be sad to hear it given how overly "professional" they are reported to be.

The annoyingly self congratulatory and macho thing I've seen among trainers FS or other, I can't really recall anything blatantly misogynistic so I am a little curious because it seems the instructors do have a "script" they more or less stick to for instruction.

Dr. Piazza/Naish the founder lives in Los Aptos (Near Santa Cruz). He is a born and raised Californian. (When on site, he commutes from CA). Having listened to the presentation many times, yes it is scripted. There are several lectures given depending on whether a student takes a 2 day or 4 day course.

And the course curriculum is standardized as well for consistency. Others will chime in that haven't gone a lot. Its not uncommon to see an instructor to pull out of the curriculum just to be sure they are following the course guidelines/drills in the right order. Remember, people aren't just blazing through 800 rounds without direction. They're doing drill all day long (and evenings in the summer). And half of those drills are also dry firing.

I've never gotten the uber-macho, uber neo-con, homophobic/misogynistic vibe ever from any of the staff, or at any presentation. Certainly not from any of the female staff. Most of the staff are men, and act like men. Besides, that would actually run counter to their mission statement.

I'm kind of curious as to where the comment is coming from myself.
