    Froglube nightmare

I can't be the only person that has come across this problem... the other day, I went into the safe, pulled out a few pistols that I have not shot for a couple of months. They were all cleaned and lubed with Froglube products. Two 1911s in .40, one in 9mm, one Sig, and one M&P. After pulling them out of the safe, I chamber checked them (cause you never know), and was just confused. The slides felt like they were hydraulic in nature, and the springs seemed almost useless. After disassembling them, I realized that the Froglube used had dried up in the safe and had formed into a weird texture. Has anyone else had this problem? I've never had something sit for this long in the safe without shooting and clean in between, but because of scheduling conflicts, I haven't had the chance to shoot as much as before... back to Jardine's grease and Mobil1 I guess.

Yeah could never get on the frog lube band wagon. Better than mobil one is royal purple. Works as well as mobil 1 and does not smell like butt.

I've had the same thing happen. Won't use froglube anymore.

Royal Purple goes in the cars, can't bring myself to using Barney blood on firearms. Then again, I was putting frog poop for a while too...

I also use Froglube and it dries up and turns gooey if left alone for a long time. The best way to avoid it drying up is to re-lube your guns regularly or just remove it and use something with a longer self life, like petroleum-based CLPs. Break-free seems to work good, without gumming up.

Ive frog lubbed some guns and left them in my safe with no issues for a couple of months... Just took a glock which I frog lubbed when I got it and it sat in my safe for months...shot it last week without even relubing it and it ran fine...

I had this same issue and took the hair drier to the firearm because the product is cellulous bases and they recommend heating the firearm then apply, so I went backwards and the excess lube was removed and the fire arm cycled properly.

Like stated above, apply when hot (I use wifeys hair dryer). Don't gum the hell out of it. The FL will penetrate the pores and when you're shooting and it heats, the FL works better and better.

I'm still on the FL wagon... Works on all my firearms and makes an after range wipe down easy... Even on my rugged AK...

Did you wipe off all the excess? Or did you leave it on extra thick cause you were storing your firearms?

i use 80-90W mobil 1 synthetic gear oil. a QT costs maybe 11 bucks. nothing better for my old C&R rifles. maybe not the ticket for precision newer stuff.

                      This^

Now that the fad is over I'm seeing more and more horror stories. FL is a awesome lube just before use. But HORRID for storage or long term use. I see a lot of threads talking about like you almost a sludge paste or a full lock up. Especially if you give it a decent coating.

I wish I remember the screen names of the idiots I use to get in arguments with when it was the hot thing and went on and on about how this is "the best lube ever". And how I was the idiot for not seeing how its "so much superior to other oils and my rem oil"

                      Finally say HAH!

Keep your FL for your day of lube in your range bag. For storage or long term lube get something like Rem oil or a proven "old school" lube.

I may give it another shot, but it sounds like too much trouble at this point. Even after using it, I still break down the guns and clean them the same, so it's not really saving me any time.

Ballistol, wallyworld grease and Mobil1 for me. Lube is lube...

Froglube, the CLP that from it's own marketing materials can't protect your firearms, at least it's edible?

Froglube, the only lube on the market that manages to completely fail to lubricate if not applied with a complex procedure. Too much, too cold, doesn't work, tastes minty!

Froglube, the only CLP on the market that's so incompatible with everything else that you must only use froglube and contact with any other normal lubricant can screw up your guns until completely degreased. It's edible!

I'll never understand why this stuff is so popular. Who in their right mind wants a biodegradeable CLP, that biodegrades over time instead of... I dunno... protecting the metal? A CLP that gums up if you ever need to lube your firearm and don't have this specific product handy. A CLP that gums up if not properly applied with just the right amount and heat, which pretty much nothing else on the market requires. I could sell canola oil as gun lube and tell people they just need to "season their guns like a skillet", never apply anything else, and charge $30 a bottle just because it's edible.

Kinda sounds like White Lithium Grease. Works great when it's fresh, then it kinds dries up and gets gunky. Doesn't really seem to affect function like you are describing, though. White Lithium is pretty cheap though, at least.
The actual value of above $.02 is less than $.01 after taxes.
