    1911+loaded+holster=dangerous?

So i was talking to a couple of guys today that have worked security and they where saying that a loaded holstered 1911 (one in the chamber) is dangerous and stupid?

    Can someone explain?

Yes, because security guards know everything about firearms safety.

yeah they don't know what they are talking about. I carried and know people who carry a cocked and locked 1911 every day, and have never had an issue. People have been carrying 1911's cocked and locked for a hundred years now. Funny how some alleged experts are so misinformed, that they believe that the simple act of having a loaded 1911 in a holster is going to cause it to discharge. If all of the safety are in use a cocked and locked 1911 is no more dangerous in a holster than any other gun.

Uninformed people using their somewhat flawed perspective with out any understanding of the 1911 platform.

One said something about "if it falls it will fire itself". I just laughed a bit for the same reason that i know people that also carry 1911's but was wondering what made them beleive that.

            Because stupidity is rampant?

A loaded, cocked and locked 1911 in a holster is only dangerous if the operator thereof is untrained, unpracticed, complacent, has a severe case of rectocranial inversion, or any combination of these. Please don't get your firearms advice from security guards (or for that matter, most cops and just about any gun store employee).
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

It's called condition 1, and that's how a 1911 was designed to be carried.

I'm fortunate enough to have a friend who is a weapons instructor. Per him, the 1911 is designed to be carried chambered with hammer back.

But any weapon is only as dangerous as it's keeper.

I've seen security guards ND a .357 revolver, so in their case it might be true. For the rest of us that have carried a condition 1 1911 for years without incident it's completely safe. Personally, I'm comfortable carrying a 1911 and a Glock as a CCW. I have for nearly 13 years and never had a problem.

That's what their boss told them. And I suspect the actual comment was probably "allowing you 2 to carry a loaded firearm would be dangerous and stupid".

I was a rent a cop in college and worked casino security for a while after that. The funny thing is I'm also a NRA certified rifle/pistol/shotgun instructor with a loaded 1911 in a ITWB holster on me at this moment. I guess, I never got the rent a cop memo.
